Position: Staff Electrical Design Engineer Location: Hanover, MD


Role Overview: We are seeking a Staff Electrical Design Engineer to lead the electrical design of power distribution equipment and mentor junior engineers. This role will focus on designing complex low and medium voltage switchgear and switchboard systems while ensuring compliance with industry standards and specifications.


Key Responsibilities:

· Lead electrical design projects for low and medium voltage switchgear, switchboards, and power distribution systems

· Develop electrical systems, bus work, and control schemes for custom-engineered products

· Create assembly and detailed drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks)

· Configure and design power distribution systems based on customer specifications and single-line diagrams

· Ensure product designs meet NEC, UL, ANSI/IEEE, and other relevant standards

· Mentor junior engineers and review technical documentation

· Support manufacturing teams to incorporate design changes as required

· Collaborate with customers, sales teams, and internal departments to meet project requirements

· Provide technical support for field service and testing teams

· Drive continuous improvement in design processes and product development


Requirements:

· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering

· 8+ years of experience in power distribution equipment design

· Strong knowledge of NEC, UL, ANSI/IEEE, and NEMA standards

· Experience with design tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, Vault Pro, SolidWorks, Creo, or similar CAD software

· Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and oneline diagrams

· Experience with low and medium voltage equipment design (switchgear, switchboards, bus work)

· Understanding of power distribution system components (circuit breakers, relays, transformers)

· Team leadership experience

· Excellent project management and communication skills


Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience with PLC programming and automation control systems

· Knowledge of Modbus, and other industry communication protocols

· Experience with protection and control systems for power distribution

· Knowledge of SCADA systems and HMI configuration

· AutoCAD Electrical or similar specialized electrical design software

· Background in Value Stream Mapping, 5S, or Lean methodologies

· PE licensure or EIT certification

· Experience with switchgear configuration tools (ABB Empower, Schneider Electric SE Advantage, EATON’s BidManager)
