Responsibilities
Develop profitable, meaningful relationships with agents in assigned territory
Ensure agencies are trained and have a thorough understanding of the company’s appetite, guidelines, and initiatives
Establish and monitor agency performance goals around profitability, growth, and mix of business
Build thorough knowledge of our partners in the state and ensure we have a meaningful share of wallet for target business
Focus agency engagement in accordance with company’s agency segmentation model
Drive submission activity in target industry segments and solicit feedback the company’s position in the market
Build working relationships with internal stakeholders in underwriting, claims, loss control, and product management
Maintain accurate documentation of territory management activities, agency meetings, and follow ups
Monitor market conditions in the state and provide feedback regarding changes to the marketplace
Qualifications
5+ years of territory management and/or underwriting experience
Proven track record of developing and maintaining agency partnerships
Strong background in commercial insurance with a particular emphasis on Workers’ Compensation, Property/Liability, Commercial Umbrella, and Commercial Auto. Professional Liability experience a plus.
Keen knowledge of the Virgina, Maryland and DC P&C marketplace, including competitive intelligence
Familiarity with the independent agency network serving the state
Self-motivated and ability to work independently
Ability to travel regularly within territory
Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
Windows Office and other basic computer programs
A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
