The Position

We are seeking a Senior Software Development Manager to lead and grow a team of talented engineers building scalable, secure, and highly available cloud-native services on AWS. In this role, you'll be responsible for guiding technical direction, delivering high-impact products, and fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration. The ideal candidate has strong technical acumen, a passion for people leadership, and a track record of delivering complex software solutions at scale. This is a hybrid position based out of our San Diego office.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of engineers focused on designing and delivering cloud-native solutions on AWS.
• Collaborate with Product, CloudOps, and Architecture, and R&D teams to define the roadmap and prioritize features that meet business goals and performance benchmarks.
• Drive cloud best practices in architecture, cost optimization, observability, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC).
• Own the delivery of highly available and scalable backend services, APIs, websites, and distributed systems.
• Establish and enforce engineering best practices including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, logging/monitoring, and code quality.
• Foster a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Serve as a mentor and technical coach, conducting regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and growth planning.
• Lead recruiting, onboarding, and career development efforts for your team.
  
  

Who You Are

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, including 5+ years in an engineering leadership role.
• Deep understanding of AWS cloud services and building production systems using modern cloud architecture.
• Proven success managing high-performing engineering teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and iterative development processes.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with an eye for detail.
• Ability to balance short-term deliverables with long-term team development and technical vision.
  
  

Preferred Skills

• AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, etc.).
• Background in regulated environments (HIPAA, GDPR, etc.).
• Experience leading hybrid or fully remote teams.
• Prior experience leading cloud migration efforts.
  
  

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units. Veracyte is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.

$190,000—$211,000 USD
