KBR operates the Manufacturing Technology Transfer Center Eastern Region (NMTTC East) in Lanham, MD. This is a training center focused on NASA 8739 series Workmanship standards as well as the commercial standards for IPC covering PCB/PWB, cables and harnesses, and electronic assemblies.
NMTTC East has an immediate opening for a Level A Instructor to join our team. We are willing to train and certify the right candidate. This position will currently support the distance learning program and then in person teaching upon return to on-site work. The instructor will be required to conduct training at clients’ facilities, including Wallops Flight Facility (WFF). The Level A Instructor will provide training to Government and contractor personnel for NASA’s and commercial industry IPC standards for workmanship training. The instructor will also provide training in teaching techniques and classroom practices to Level B instructors and CITs. Instructors administer and grade student test papers, provide hands on demonstrations and coaching of students in proper workmanship techniques as required.
Responsibilities Include
- Filing reports and documentation on classes taught
- Helping maintain the database of training that students receive at the NMTTC
- Working directly with NASA GSFC COR to identify and implement course improvements.
- Supporting Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) inventory tracking and annual GFE verification reviews.
- The Level A instructor may also support Quality Engineering
- QE engineers provide insight and oversight activities for spacecraft and electronic manufacturing processes
- Assist with development and implementation of control programs and conducts quality reviews on procedures to assure product and material quality
- Assist with development, implementation, and maintenance of quality inspection programs for incoming, process, and final approval of material and product inspection
- Assist other discipline engineering personnel with root cause analysis and corrective actions associated with manufacturing issues
- Create, modify, and review quality procedures and work instructions
- Support the NASA Workmanship Standards Working Group by participating in meetings, reviewing, and commenting on, or concurring with all updates to the active NASA workmanship standards
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- BS degree in Aerospace, Quality engineering or a related field. In lieu of a degree, consideration will be based on years of related experience
- 5+ years of professional experience and 3 years of hands-on equipment technical skills in an electronics manufacturing environment
- Training and 5 years of experience with NASA Workmanship Standards requirements of NASA-STD-8739 series.
- Certification experience with IPC J-STD-001/ 001 Space
- Candidate must be able to meet the vision requirements outlined in NASA-STD-8739.6 and be able to demonstrate proficiency based on hands-on experience
- Must be able to become qualified as a NASA Level A instructor.
- Must be able to achieve MIT status in J-STD-001/001 Space and WHMA-A-620/620 Space.
- Be self-directed with minimal management oversight
- Produce work products using MS Office e.g. Word/PowerPoint/Excel/Project.
- Excellent customer communications and interactions, and presentation skills to various technical and non-technical audiences are desired. Written skills must demonstrate the ability to accurately describe technical processes/requirements in a logical and grammatically correct manner
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Current NASA-STD-8739 Level B Instructor or IPC CIT (MIT preferred) in multiple standards.
- Qualification as a Certified IPC Trainer (CIT) or Master IPC Trainer (MIT) in one or more of the IPC standards (J-STD-001, IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620, etc.) is highly desirable.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience with adult education (is this a requirement of preferred?)
- 5 years of experience in electronics industry assembly and fabrication is preferred
- Experience with NASA flight hardware systems and components, IEEE parts, ISO 9001/AS9100 and other related standards
Basic Compensation
$107,200.00 - $145,000
This range is for the Greenbelt, Maryland area only
The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
Additional Compensation
KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation.
