Job Title: Senior Project Manager – Patient Systems (Healthcare IT)
Location: Mostly remote with Hybrid in the Raleigh/Durham, NC on an as needed basis
Type: Contract to hire
Industry: Healthcare / Clinical / Laboratory Information Systems
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and communicative Senior Project Manager with a strong background in software development project delivery—especially within healthcare, clinical, or lab environments. This role will be dedicated to leading complex initiatives that directly impact patient-facing systems such as portals used to schedule lab tests, access results, and manage billing.
The initial project involves consolidating multiple legacy patient portals into a single, unified experience, delivering increased convenience and clarity for patients. This program spans multiple departments—including operations, sales, and HR—and is already well underway, with key milestones targeted for delivery this summer and feature demos scheduled later this year.
You will be expected to lead cross-functional teams, drive risk mitigation strategies, communicate clearly with executive stakeholders, and ensure delivery through Scrum methodologies—without being overly process-focused.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage large-scale, cross-functional projects (20–30+ team members).
- Deliver healthcare-focused software solutions in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Run daily standups and provide clear, business-focused project status updates.
- Identify and mitigate project risks proactively; escalate complex challenges to appropriate executives.
- Coordinate between technical teams, business units, and operational groups to ensure alignment and timely delivery.
- Utilize Smartsheet, Jira, and Confluence to manage workflows and documentation.
- Collaborate closely with internal sponsors at the executive level to remove roadblocks and achieve project goals.
Requirements:
- 8–10 years of experience as a Project Manager in software development environments (not infrastructure, release management, or migrations).
- Proven success managing year+ initiatives with large, cross-departmental teams.
- Scrum certified with hands-on experience in Agile/Scrum delivery (this is a delivery-focused role, not an Agile coaching role).
- Strong knowledge of Jira, Confluence, and Smartsheet.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills—able to summarize complex issues and articulate business value.
- Experience working with executive sponsors and C-level stakeholders.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and an assertive leader who drives accountability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Healthcare, clinical, or lab industry experience.
- Experience in commerce or customer-facing web applications.
- Background in development, quality assurance, or business analysis prior to becoming a PM.
- Familiarity with healthcare workflows related to patient scheduling, billing, and lab result access.
What Success Looks Like:
- You’ve led software delivery efforts that provided clear business value—faster patient access, improved operational efficiency, or consolidated platforms.
- You’ve anticipated risks before they became blockers and brought solutions (not just problems) to leadership.
- You’ve been the bridge between departments who don’t typically work together, and helped create aligned, forward progress.
