Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Packaging Engineer to join our North America Service Packaging team in developing world-class designs for sustaining and new launch activities. You will play a key role on the team and will be the one who brings it all together to drive technical execution of service packaging projects across several Vehicle and Energy Product platforms. This is a very unique opportunity to engage with all facets of Tesla development from technology and design through component delivery, final manufacturing, inventory warehousing, and product servicing. The successful candidate must have the ability to work quickly and efficiently with a high level of precision, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be detail oriented, and not afraid to re-define tradition.
* Lead end-to-end engineered packaging projects for Tesla Vehicle and Energy servicing strategies
* Interface with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, New Product Introduction, Service and Distribution, and Operations partners to gather and develop packaging requirements
* Partner with Supply Chain and Logistics to drive projects to enable the most efficient delivery of parts possible without sacrificing part quality or distribution
* Provide design direction and development plans of protective packaging containers, dunnage, and unique designs in a 3PL and courier-shipping environment
* Monitor KPI's and work with Packaging Design Engineers to develop world-class packaging standards for new and sustaining programs
* Drive logistics, ergonomics, process, and sustainability improvement initiatives
* Assist in packaging vendor selection and vendor management
* Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Packaging, work experience with evidence of exceptional ability, or equivalent experience
* Minimum 5-10 years of work experience in packaging engineering, manufacturing engineering, supply chain, or warehousing operations
* Strong knowledge of CAD and technical drawings, including datum structure, GD&T, and tolerance stack up analysis
* Familiarity with warehousing and distribution processes such as inventory management, material planning, end of life planning, and last mile delivery
* Strong knowledge in a large variety of materials (aluminum, steel, composites, foam, corrugate, etc.)
* Experience with designing to standards such as ASTM, Mil-Spec, etc.
* Strong understanding of packaging testing and validation
* Capable of managing multiple priorities at once without sacrificing quality of results or deadlines
