Sr. Manager Packaging Engineer
Plans, manages and directs the Packaging & Graphics group in research, innovation, technical support, training and also provides strategic direction on current and future research efforts. The Packaging & Graphics Manager is a trained research and development technical manager, responsible for managing the resources and actions of individuals working on packaging projects for all product lines. They ensure successful communication and coordination between Project Manager, Operations, Co-Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales, along with the external/internal Graphic development. Additionally, the Packaging & Graphics Managers role is to maintain open communication with all internal and external customers, and ensure priorities are set and agreed to which will drive business needs. The Package & Graphics Manager will provide innovative and cost-effective packaging that protects our products, maintains package integrity and enhances the usage of our products, via consumer-friendly packaging. The Pkg & Graphic Mgr develops and promotes strategic plans within a program and then manages the department to achieve strategic and operating objectives and is accountable for the professional development of people in the department along with the quality of technical work.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop new packages by defining, initiating, planning and executing / commercializing packaging projects
- Performs packaging tests by evaluating and approving new and revised packaging materials via laboratory tests
- Coordinates, supervises and evaluates plant trials and shipping tests to ensure package / product performance
- Issues and approves packaging specs; develop packaging material specs to enable effective package purchases and quality components
- Develop cost reduced packages to provide productivity savings by working with purchasing, packaging material vendors and plants to provide satisfactory cost-effective containers for all products
- Provides plant packaging support to resolve packaging material related quality issues / shortages with packaging suppliers
- Prepares annual packaging & graphics departmental operating & capital budgets. Accountable for the quality of the technical work of the department
- Conduct audits of currently approved packaging materials at plants and in the field to ascertain performance
- Evaluates competitive packages to keep abreast of innovations by other food or consumer product manufacturers
- Maintains packaging industry & regulatory awareness by keeping up to date with applicable literature for compliance with new and existing packaging regulations
- Maintains knowledge of packaging innovations via trade publications, professional organizations, seminars and packaging industry trade shows
- Leads innovation projects to support the NPD process and works with co-manufacturers

$150,000 - $190,000 + 20%

What You’ll Need:
- BS and or MS in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 15+ years’ experience in the food industry with food safety and quality systems including 2 years’ auditing experience (internal or external). Knowledgeable of US and International Regulations including FDA, USDA, and CFIA
- Working knowledge Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point
- Working knowledge of SAP or INFOR is beneficial
