Summary
Lead multiple hardware design teams for Tesla Energy, driving the development of innovative products that meet performance, aesthetic, and quality targets. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and ensure seamless execution.
Responsibilities
Lead and direct mechanical design engineers in full life cycle product development
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve product performance, aesthetic, schedule, cost, reliability, and quality targets
Design and review mechanical systems and components, including plastic, metal, and sheet metal parts, connectors, insulators, wire-harnesses, fasteners, electronic assemblies, and other components
Perform and lead detailed mechanical design analysis, including thermal, structural, design for assembly, serviceability, and design for test
Generate and maintain product and component design requirements
Create and lead the execution of hardware validation plans
Drive design for high-volume manufacture and assembly, and customer aesthetic requirements
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
7+ years of product design experience and 5+ years of design leadership experience
Deep understanding of material science of components used in mechanical design (metals, plastics, insulators, connectors, gaskets, etc.)
Deep understanding of component and product failure modes
Expertise in a wide variety of component fabrication methods
Experience integrating and packaging electronic assemblies
Thermal system analysis expertise, FEA, and CFD experience
Knowledge of basic electrical principles and their application in renewable energy systems
Experience with obtaining compliance and certification to global standards
