Sr. Full Stack Java Engineer

6month Contract to Hire

Pay Range: $70.00 - $100.00per hr / Salary Target: $150K - $220K

Job Description:

Our client is revolutionizing the education space by building scalable, learner-first digital platforms that empower students and educators. They are looking for a Senior Full Stack Java Engineer to help architect, build, and maintain mission-critical components of our learning platform. You'll work in a modern agile environment, collaborating across teams to build scalable APIs, mentor engineers, and lead the design of features that reach millions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and implement backend features using Java, Spring Boot, Gradle, and Maven
• Design robust APIs (RESTful) and own API contract development
• Develop seamless workflow and function/class structures for high-traffic features
• Implement dynamic UIs using Angular, integrated closely with backend APIs
• Design and maintain relational databases: PostgreSQL and MySQL
• Work with Kafka and RabbitMQ for scalable messaging, job queues, and async processing

Required Skills:

• 5+ years of professional experience in backend development with Java & Spring Boot
• Strong experience with Gradle or Maven for build management
• Proficiency in REST API development and design
• Working knowledge of Angular or similar front-end frameworks
• Expertise in database schema design and optimization for PostgreSQL/MySQL
• Experience with queueing systems such as Kafka and RabbitMQ
• Demonstrated experience in writing unit and integration tests with mocking
• Ability to design and communicate scalable system architecture and workflows
• Experience mentoring and training developers

Bonus / Preferred Skills

• Experience with Python for scripting, automation, or auxiliary services
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows
• Experience working in an EdTech, SaaS, or B2B environment
• Familiarity with mobile backend API integrations and usage patterns
• Knowledge of educational standards (e.g., LTI, SCORM) is a plus
