Senior AWS DevOps Engineer
Clearance: Must be eligible for a US Security Clearance (US Citizenship required)
Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid/Remote, preference to local candidates)
We are seeking a seasoned Senior AWS DevOps Engineer to lead the design, build, automate and manage our AWS Cloud infrastructure. In this role, you will ensure our cloud environments remain secure, scalable, reliable, and optimized for cost-efficiency. Your expertise in automation, containerization, and DevOps best practices will drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
AWS Cloud Infrastructure & Automation:
- Design, deploy, and maintain AWS environments utilizing Terraform Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC).
- Manage and enhance CI/CD pipelines with tools such as Jenkins and AWS CodePipeline.
- Automate provisioning, configuration management, and deployment processes.
Containerization:
- Build, deploy, update, and troubleshoot containerized applications using Docker, AWS ECS, and Fargate.
- Manage container orchestration and ensure secure and efficient operation of container-based workloads.
Cloud Security and Compliance:
- Implement proactive security measures, including vulnerability management, patching, IAM roles, policies, and firewall configurations.
- Maintain security compliance and support security audits and assessments.
Cost Optimization:
- Monitor and analyze AWS resource usage and implement cost reduction strategies.
- Provide recommendations for efficient resource scaling and utilization.
Reliability and Disaster Recovery:
- Develop and test disaster recovery strategies to ensure high availability and business continuity.
- Implement performance monitoring and alerting solutions using AWS CloudWatch, Datadog, and Splunk.
Incident Management and Troubleshooting:
- Lead incident response efforts for critical issues, performing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to improve reliability.
- Resolve infrastructure bottlenecks and optimize performance.
Collaboration and Documentation:
- Work closely with Agile Scrum teams, contributing to sprint planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation and configuration records in Git and Jira.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of AWS cloud engineering and DevOps automation experience.
- Expertise with Terraform; familiarity with AWS CloudFormation and AWS CDK is a plus.
- Strong proficiency in Docker containerization, building secure containers, sidecars, AWS ECS, and Fargate.
- Strong understanding of AWS security practices, IAM, and compliance frameworks.
- Extensive experience in cost optimization, monitoring, and performance tuning.
- Proven track record managing CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and Linux administration experience (Amazon Linux, RedHat, Ubuntu).
- U.S. citizenship with eligibility to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer).
- Experience migrating workloads to AWS from on-premises environments.
- Experience in customer-facing or managed service roles.
Education and Work experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- 6+ years' experience in a specifically-DevOps role supporting software development and distributed applications.
Preferred Certifications:
- AWS Certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
