Starting Salary: $88,000 - $105,000 + annual bonus

Location: East Lansing, 2 days in office 3 days remote

Robert Half is partnering with one of their clients on their recruitment efforts to find a full-time, direct hire experienced Senior Accountant to join their team in East Lansing, Michigan. In this role, you will oversee critical accounting functions, ensuring compliance with industry standards and supporting the company's financial health. This hybrid position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to both general accounting and statutory financial reporting processes.

Responsibilities

• Execute monthly financial close activities, including preparing and reviewing journal entries.
• Conduct detailed account reconciliations and analyze variances across reporting periods.
• Utilize data from multiple systems to ensure accuracy and consistency in financial reports.
• Collaborate with internal and external auditors by providing timely documentation and responses.
• Prepare quarterly and annual statutory financial statements, including supporting schedules and disclosures.
• Assist in drafting statutory management discussions and analyses.
• Complete state-specific financial supplements and data submissions.
• Monitor and maintain compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, including statutory accounting practices.
• Develop and refine financial reports to support organizational decision-making processes.
  
  
  

Requirements

• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting or finance, ideally within the insurance sector.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
• Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles; experience with statutory accounting principles is highly preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP, as well as Power BI and Word.
• Demonstrated ability to work with complex datasets from multiple source systems.
• Previous experience preparing statutory financial statements and related schedules is a plus.
