Summary

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking an SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 6 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Solihull.


Our client are seeking a skilled and experienced SQL DBA to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining their SQL Server databases, ensuring their performance, availability, and security. The SQL DBA will work closely with the development and operations teams to support their clients' database needs and provide expert guidance on best practice. Database administration involves managing operational databases in production environments as well as supporting databases for development, testing and iterative improvements. The focus is on ensuring database availability, integrity, security and performance across a variety of database types, including relational, NoSQL and cloud-based databases.


Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain SQL Server databases, including installation, configuration, and upgrades
  • Identifying and acting on automation opportunities to improve performance and value from databases, data stores and data pipelines
  • Using database management system software and tools including both cloud-based and on-premises solutions
  • Applying knowledge of the logical database schema
  • Ensuring compliance with data privacy laws and regulations
  • Designing and implementing disaster recovery, backup strategies, and security monitoring protocols
  • Integrating and managing databases across hybrid environments, combining on-premises and cloud-based solutions
  • Monitoring emerging database technologies and trends, including security features and vulnerabilities
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues and incidents


Requirements

  • At least 5 years’ experience as an SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA)
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server database management and administration
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is required
  • Experience with database performance tuning and optimization
  • Familiarity with database security best practices
  • Up-to-date with the latest SQL Server technologies and best practices
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Must have live SC Clearance
