Summary

SQL Database Administrator



We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented SQL Database Administrator to join our technology team. In this role, you will play a critical part in the design, development, implementation, and ongoing support of our database environments across production, QA, and development tiers. You’ll work closely with Software Development, Data Engineering, and QA teams to ensure optimal performance, security, and availability of our database infrastructure.



Key Responsibilities



  • Design, deploy, and maintain SQL Server databases across various environments (Production, QA, Development).
  • Ensure high availability and meet system SLAs through proactive monitoring and optimization.
  • Develop and implement database monitoring solutions to maintain performance and uptime standards.
  • Conduct regular security audits and enforce best practices across all environments.
  • Support T-SQL development efforts, including version control, code review, testing, and deployment within a CI/CD pipeline.
  • Collaborate with developers to guide and enforce best practices in writing efficient queries and stored procedures.
  • Perform performance tuning and root cause analysis to identify and resolve system bottlenecks.
  • Support capacity planning and forecast future database resource needs.
  • Lead the design and implementation of new database environments and integration initiatives.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of data system integrations to meet business goals.


Qualifications


Required:



  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server in a DBA role.
  • Deep knowledge of T-SQL, PowerShell, and industry-standard coding practices.
  • Proficient with AWS cloud services, particularly RDS and EC2.
  • Experience using GitHub for version control and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred).
  • Solid understanding of SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery methods: Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Log Shipping, Mirroring, and Replication.
  • Strong database administration skills including backup/restore, snapshots, role-based access, and permissions management.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server concurrency, transactions, and locking mechanisms.
  • Hands-on experience with performance troubleshooting tools, SQL Server Profiler, and Query Store.
  • Exposure to SQL Server features such as Full-Text Search and XML querying.
  • Proficiency in SQL performance tuning and optimization techniques.
  • Associate degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.



Preferred:


  • Working knowledge of PostgreSQL or MySQL databases.
  • Experience using Atlassian tools like Jira and Confluence for project tracking and documentation.
