Summary
Duties
* Designing the exceptional student education program so that it is consistent with the total educational philosophy of the district
* Preparing educational plans annually for each student based on individually assessed needs in accordance with district procedures
* Preparing therapy plans for each student
* Providing appropriate schedules for exceptional students involving school personnel as required
* Conducting speech and language screening once a year for all kindergarten students and all students not previously enrolled in school
* Seeking a variety of services through community resources and agencies to meet the needs of exceptional students
* Participating in the in-school staffing and screening processes as appropriate
* Participating on evaluation teams for speech, language, communication and hearing impaired students as appropriate
* Develop and maintain I.E.P.'s for assigned students and ensure that appropriate and necessary data is in place and coordinated/articulated to parents and school personnel
* Providing speech and/or hearing screening tests for all students referred by the in-school staffing committee
* Providing diagnostic/evaluation testing for students failing speech screening
* Developing and conducting an in-service program to inform classroom teacher of the goals and objectives of the speech program and ways of achieving them in the school setting
* Conferring with the classroom teacher as requested concerning any educational needs of the student
* Making available to teachers instructional ideas that are appropriate for exceptional students within the classroom situation
* Provide consultative and advisory data for school personnel, parents, or other related professional disciplines
* Perform other duties as assigned by building principal or Director of Special Education
Qualifications
* Educator License Information System (ELIS) Teaching or Non-Teaching SLP endorsement
* Master's in speech-language pathology from a program approved by the ISBE, which includes a clinical practicum of 375 hours for speech-language pathologists
* Passage of the Praxis exam

Physical Requirements
* Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with students, other faculty, staff, and parents as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls
* The position also entails significant walking, bending, standing, stooping, and possible physical interventions in order to maintain a safe learning environment
* The employee should have the physical capabilities to perform all job functions
This position services students between Stony Creek School and Prairie Jr. High School (K-8).
