Summary

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Must be a Christian and a member of a church that holds to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believing in the New and Old Testaments of the Holy Bible. Click here to read GENERAL OBJECTIVES: The Program Director/Faculty for the Master of Education in Special Education is responsible for the overall activities and achievement of DBU goals related to student enrollment, recruitment, retention, curriculum design, revision, faculty supervision, teaching assignments, design, operation of course rotations, planning class schedules, student advising, course design, and development. This position is responsible for the direct supervision of student advisement within the program. This position works in partnership with the COE Dean, Associate Dean, Program Directors, Certification Officer, faculty, and staff regarding accreditation through the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the Association for the Advancement of Quality Educator Preparation (AAQEP). Other institutional responsibilities and relationships are with the Faculty Council, Graduate Programs Office, other Graduate Program Directors, Registrar's Office, Cashier's Office, International office, Financial Aid, Institutional Effectiveness, Academic Committee, Masters' Program Committee, and SACSCOC Leadership Team. QUALIFICATIONS: Position Requirements: * Terminal Degree in Education * Teacher Certification * Special Education Certification * Educational Diagnostician Certification Preferred: * Supervisory / Observation Experience * Instructional Coaching experience Technical skills needed related to the position: * Effective written and oral communication skills * Strong knowledge of content area (discipline of courses taught) * Mentorship/advising experience or demonstrated potential for success with such experience * Strategic thinking and planning * Organizational management * Research skills * Report generation. * Positive disposition toward diversity * Commitment to continued professional learning and contribution to the field SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: * Curriculum Management includes: * Managing/aligning the program curriculum / courses to meet state certification standards and the integration of faith and learning, including course work that reflects quality, rigor and current research-based theory and practice. * Creating student degree plans. * Ensuring that the course work integrates faith and learning and reflects quality, rigor and current research-based theory and practice. * Designing and maintaining regular course rotation. * Developing class schedules tri-annually with careful consideration given to DBU's scheduling policies, course rotations, and teaching assignments. * Providing textbook selection and support. * Developing new courses and class schedules with careful consideration given to DBU's scheduling policies, course rotations, and teaching assignments. Faculty supervision includes recommendations of adjunct faculty to teach in the program, assignment of courses, and regular review of adjunct/faculty evaluations to ensure teaching effectiveness. * Recruitment of students includes: * Scheduling and attending recruiting events. * Planning and executing a marketing strategy. * Implementing communication management track for contacting prospects. * Updating the COE Special Education Program website, brochures, and other printed literature on a regular schedule to enhance recruitment. * Student services include: * Recommending new students. * Providing student orientation. * Developing and implementing new cohorts. * Assisting advisees with university processes, such as the application, registration, graduation, and other provision of other services, resources and tools that will be of benefit. * Evaluate and enhance program effectiveness by remaining knowledgeable of current trends in higher education and special education through professional development activities such as research, conferences, seminars, and collaboration with other educational leaders. * Enrollment and retention activities include: * Advise new and returning students regarding course selection and semester course load. * Answer questions and initiate regular communication with students. * Help resolve problems. * Counsel for career development and employment opportunities. * Update and recommend degree plans for programs to meet state and national standards. * Coordinate the practicum and/or internship experience as required of the program. * Participate in special enrollment events as * Speak to student groups as requested and participate in academic training events. * Faculty program supervision includes: * Recommending adjunct faculty to teach in the program. * Assigning courses to faculty. * Reviewing adjunct/faculty evaluations to ensure teaching effectiveness. * Work with the DBU Administration with special projects and serves on DBU committees as assigned. * Participate in department, College of Education, initiatives, such as the Educator Faculty / Staff Meetings, COE adjunct workshops, and DBU meetings including DBU Advisory Councils, curriculum workshops, Texas Education Agency (TEA) audits, Association for the Advancement for Quality Educator Preparation (AAQEP), Graduate Defense of Degree, UG Workshops, UG Lesson Plan Defense, Student Education Association Meetings, and other college / campus activities. * Teach courses as deemed by program enrollment and faculty course load of 2-2-1 = 5 courses / year. * Develop program description and annual reports for program area including learner centered outcomes (LCO) and assessment of LCO's. * Other duties as assigned by Dean, Provost, and President. WORK SCHEDULE: Regular office hours between 8:00a.m.- 5:00p.m., Monday - Friday, but occasionally flexible hours will be required.
