About The Program

NASA has awarded Lockheed Martin the prestigious contract to develop the Mars Ascent Vehicle (MAV)—a critical component of NASA’s Mars Sample Return (MSR) program. This program will retrieve rock, sediment, and atmospheric samples collected by the Perseverance rover and return them to Earth. The MAV is poised to become the first rocket ever launched from another planet, marking a historic milestone in space exploration. Join this groundbreaking mission and play a vital role in the next chapter of interplanetary exploration.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Spacecraft Systems Integration Engineer to support the integration of embedded real-time flight software, ground control software, and avionics systems within the MAVIS architecture. The ideal candidate will ensure seamless software integration, manage mission-critical data definitions, and support key program milestones. This role offers the flexibility to work remotely or in a hybrid capacity while contributing to one of NASA’s most ambitious space missions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Integrate embedded real-time flight software, ground control software, and avionics systems within the MAVIS architecture.
  • Develop and maintain the Command and Telemetry (C&T) Database to support MAV mission operations.
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy of command definitions, telemetry points, and data formats across the system.
  • Establish and maintain traceability between software requirements, verification artifacts, and test results.
  • Review and provide feedback on MAV-level Software Development and Integration Plans.
  • Support and participate in key program milestones, including:
    • Software Readiness Reviews (SRR)
    • Integration Readiness Reviews (IRR)
    • Test Readiness Reviews (TRR)
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure successful system integration and mission readiness.
Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Experience integrating complex software and hardware systems, preferably in the aerospace or defense industry.
  • Strong knowledge of command and telemetry systems, including database development and management.
  • Familiarity with real-time embedded flight software and ground control systems.
  • Experience with software verification, validation, and traceability processes.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to program security requirements.
