🚧 About the Project: JOC Artificial Intelligence Proof of Concept

This high-impact project focuses on delivering a functional prototype that uses LLMs to:

🔍 Ingest and analyse unstructured operational data

📊 Detect anomalies in reports and data streams

💬 Summarise key insights from massive datasets using natural language queries

🧠 Power a new way of qualitative analysis across Defence information systems

Following successful validation, the prototype will transition to a production-grade system, built in a DevSecOps environment, integrated with Defence infrastructure, and governed by Continuous Authority to Operate (CATO)practices.

🧭 Your Mission as Solution Architect

As the technical lead of the service team, you will design, architect, and guide the implementation of all major solution components—from prototype through to production. You’ll bridge engineering, AI, infrastructure, and stakeholder expectations.

🧱 Core Responsibilities

1. 📐 Solution Design & Architecture

• Lead architecture of an LLM-powered information extraction and analysis platform
• Design robust systems to handle ingestion of PDFs, DOCX, raw text, audio, and images
• Integrate OCR, NLP pipelines, and custom-built components

1. 🛠️ Prototype Build & Engineering Oversight

• Define engineering architecture for LLM integration, fine-tuning, and contextual analysis
• Guide development of qualitative analysis, anomaly detection, and summarisation modules
• Oversee design of a secure, user-friendly web interface for Defence users

1. 🚀 Transition to Production (DevSecOps)

• Build and implement secure CI/CD pipelines with automated security testing
• Drive containerisation and orchestration using Docker & Kubernetes
• Define infrastructure as code templates for reliable and auditable deployments
• Lead CATO integration for authority to operate in secure Defence environments

1. 🧪 Use Case Development & Validation

• Translate operational use cases into scalable system features
• Validate solution effectiveness through rigorous testing and evaluation
• Align architecture with stakeholder-defined quality, performance, and reliability criteria

1. 📚 Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

• Produce clear and comprehensive architectural, deployment, and security documentation
• Deliver training and onboarding support to internal Defence stakeholders
• Provide mentoring to junior engineers and analysts

🧑‍💻 Who You Are

This isn’t a junior role or an off-the-shelf job. We’re looking for a seasoned technical leader and architect who is confident designing secure systems for Defence environments—someone who thrives in complex, fast-paced projects and can bring clarity, rigour, and innovation to high-impact delivery.

✅ You Bring:

• 🧠 Deep experience designing solutions with LLMs, NLP or AI/ML platforms
• 🔐 Strong DevSecOps acumen—CI/CD, IaC, containerisation, secure coding
• 🛡️ Clearance: Active NV2 (or ability to upgrade to PV)
• 📈 Track record delivering production systems in Defence or national security settings
• 📊 Experience with data architecture, ingestion pipelines, and document processing
• 💬 Excellent communication and documentation skills—written, visual and verbal

🔧 Tech & Tools You Know:

• LLM frameworks: LangChain, Haystack, Hugging Face Transformers
• Backend: Python, FastAPI, Node.js
• Containers & Orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes
• DevSecOps Tooling: GitLab CI, Terraform, Vault, Prometheus, ArgoCD
• Data tools: OCR, Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, MLFlow
• Infra: Secure cloud deployments (AWS GovCloud, Azure IL5/IL6)

📍 Location & Logistics

• Primary site: HQ Joint Operations Command (JOC), Bungendore, NSW
• Additional site engagement: Fyshwick, Brindabella Park, Russell, Campbell Park (as required)
• Hybrid work flexibility available, subject to Defence approvals
• Travel reimbursed under official Defence policy

📆 Contract Details

• 📜 Fixed-Term Engagement: 1 July 2025 – 30 June 2026
• 🔁 Extension Options: Up to 2 additional years
• 📑 Monthly service delivery and progress reports required
