Bupa is in the process of migrating and modernising its applications and systems in a strategic multiyear program to move to cloud. We are seeking a Solution Architect for a 6-month day rate contact to support our Cloud Modernisation Program.  Microsoft Azure is our chosen cloud provider and we have reached a managed level of maturity in the Azure platform. Bupa is also looking to support a multi cloud strategy in Google Cloud Services and has 3rd party managed services in AWS. 

The purpose of this Cloud Modernisation Lead Solution Architect role is to lead the architecture and design activities for the development and delivery of fit-for-purpose solution architectures for the program, enabling smooth and effective operations translating to high quality production systems delivered by engineering teams. 

At the moment the remaining data centre components targeted to move to cloud are either core application components which are targeted for modernisation in a separate program or infrastructure foundational components such as;

• Storage (SAN)
• Network Attached Storage hosting unstructured data
• Common Infrastructure Components
• Core Networking components

To be successful in this role it is important that the candidate has expertise and experience in these infrastructure systems and their cloud alternatives.

There will be a significant focus on;

• Giving our developers more self-service capability to deploy application infrastructure more quickly
• Automating operational activities
• Increasing our resilience to technical failures
• Design systems for automating cloud platform capability at scale. 
  • Having a strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code, DevOps pipelines, Continuous Delivery practices, public cloud platforms and security tools to plan how deployment and operational processes will work across systems: from code to production.
  • Designing architectures that enable highly automated processes for infrastructure deployment and operations at scale. This considers how services are published, discovered, triggered, hosted, executed and monitored.
• Design architectures / approaches for maintaining a large number of automated processes at scale, ensuring that hundreds or thousands of automated infrastructure activities are efficient to observe, maintain and understand for engineering. 
• Using previous experience in, or deep knowledge of cloud platform engineering to design systems that are pragmatic, resilient and flexible from an engineering perspective.
• Applying cloud platform architectural excellence and practices such as Zero Trust, Cloud Adoption Framework principles, shift left, & everything as code, throughout system design.
