The Software Integration Engineer will support the Naval Research Laboratory’s (NRL) Marine Meteorology Division (MMD) by coordinating the installation, integration, troubleshooting, and maintenance support for software and system architecture in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) field. The duty location is the Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center (FNMOC) in Monterey, California. The Software Integration Engineer will also work with NRL-MMD system administrators and software developers to incorporate algorithms and processes into FNMOC’s processing and dissemination architecture. The engineer will also work with FNMOC system and network administrators to push this software integration forward, reporting issues back to NRL-MMD and developing solutions. Systems and networks involved are on both classified and unclassified levels (up to SIPRNet). Salary Range: $120,000-$130,000 Job Duties: Support NRL-MMD software deployment efforts at FNMOC. Prepare documents, spreadsheets, and graphics for software demonstrations. Scope the level of effort required to integrate NRL-MMD software into FNMOC architecture, then perform tasking to achieve that integration. Report compatibility issues to NRL-MMD developers and coordinate solutions. Coordinate with FNMOC system and network administrators to install NRL-MMD software and make it accessible to its users. Build a documentation and knowledge database of the software and integration processes. Provide recommendations for software upgrades or additional hardware to support NRL-MMD software, if applicable. Monitor and provide NRL policy compliance with all integration efforts. Required Skills and Experience: Active DoD Secret clearance (Tier III investigation) Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or relevant technical field 5 + years experience as systems administrator or software developer Competency with at least one programming language Strong technical writing and oral communication skills Desired Qualifications: Familiarity with the standard operations of FNMOC Knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating systems, version 8 Experience with programming languages and frameworks such as Python 2.x, Python 3.x, Java, JavaScript, FORTRAN, C++, HTML/CSS, Apache, and Flask. Familiarity with software development tools such as Cylc, Jira, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Git, and Subversion. Knowledge of application program interfaces (API), and response-handling Familiarity with meteorology and oceanography (METOC) systems and models such as COAMPS, NAAPS, and NAVGEM Experience with geospatial dissemination software such as GeoServer and ERDDAP Experience with task management or program management at a supervisory level EOE/Minorities/Females/Vet/Disabled
