Who we are:
Want to make an impact? Join our pack and come work (and play!) with us.
We believe everyone deserves the unconditional love of a pet—and at Rover, our mission is to make it easier to experience that love. Founded in 2011, the Rover app and website connect dog and cat parents with loving pet sitters and dog walkers in neighborhoods across the US, Canada, and Europe. We empower our community of trusted pet sitters and dog walkers to run their own pet care businesses on Rover with the tools and security of a global company to back them.
Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, we work closely with our teams in Barcelona, San Antonio, Spokane, and remote locations. We’ve got a reputation for being a great place to work, having been named among the 100 Best Companies to Work For in Seattle Business Magazine and Washington’s Best Workplaces in the Puget Sound Business Journal. We're an agile, fast-growing company, and our leadership comes from some of the world's most respected tech companies.
At Rover, our furry coworkers are just as important as our human ones—and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Along with making the joys of pet parenthood more accessible, we’re committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming community of pet people—and that starts with our employees.
Meet the Developer Experience Team:
The Developer Experience team is chartered with ensuring Rover developers have the tools, processes, and support they need to work effectively, stay focused, and find fulfillment in their contributions. We work to enhance developer productivity and satisfaction by reducing friction in the development lifecycle and ensuring the company's engineering organization can scale effectively. Our strategy is rooted in a developer-centric approach, addressing the real challenges developers encounter daily. We believe that by focusing on their experience, we can drive organization-wide productivity more effectively than by narrowly targeting individual productivity metrics alone. Our goal isn’t simply to increase output; it’s to create an environment where developers are empowered to do their best work and feel fulfilled and supported in their growth.
Here are some examples of the types of projects we work on:
Improving Test Visibility and Reliability: Testing is essential to product quality, but when failures happen, it’s often unclear what broke, why it broke, or who should fix it. We’re building a test analytics platform that tracks historical Continuous Integration (CI) results, connects failures to the right teams, and highlights flaky or slow tests. The goal is to reduce frustration, improve confidence in our test suite, and make test-driven development a real, practical option across Rover.
Leveling Up Our Development Environments: We’re rethinking what a great development environment should feel like. At Rover, that means fast startup times, seamless mobile and web development, and devcontainers that “just work” - whether you’re in Github Codespaces or working locally.
Making Containers Fast, Modern, and Easy to Use: Our container ecosystem has become complex over time with custom tools and inconsistent practices slowing teams down. We’re simplifying and standardizing how containers are built, versioned, and managed. This effort reduces friction, improves performance, and removes the need for deep institutional knowledge.
We’re looking for a software engineer to join the Developer Experience team to help accelerate our goals around improving the productivity and satisfaction of Rover’s software development community. The ideal candidate empathizes with their engineering peers and is passionate about reducing friction in the development lifecycle. You’re a great teammate who can drive and deliver projects in line with Rover’s Core Values.
