Job Title: Software Developer 3 (Contract Position)

Location: Austin, TX (1 day per month onsite; primarily remote)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Software Developer (Level 3) to support the application development and maintenance needs of a Texas state agency. This is a long-term contract role offering remote flexibility, with just one in-office day required per month in Austin, TX.

The successful candidate will provide application support and enhancements, address data and processing issues, correct or extend existing solutions, and contribute to new development efforts. The role also includes creating technical documentation for ongoing system support.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze application functionality and troubleshoot data-related issues
• Maintain and enhance existing systems developed in Visual Basic and Java
• Design, develop, and optimize SQL queries and database structures in Microsoft SQL Server
• Resolve operational and system data issues to ensure uninterrupted agency services
• Create and maintain technical documentation for software systems

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in Visual Basic (VB) application development
• 8+ years of experience in Java application development
• 8+ years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server, including database and query development
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and remotely with minimal supervision
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Preferred: Previous experience working with the State of Texas, either as a contractor or employee
