Now eBay is seeking a passionate and skilled Software Development Manager to lead and expand our newly established Developer ECO-system (DECO) team in Shanghai which manages the eBay public API portfolio that enables partners to create new magical experiences in our marketplace. eBay APIs offer eBay developers the power to create a wide variety of solutions to meet the diverse needs of the millions of buyers and sellers on eBay. The successful candidate will lead the new DECO team, ensuring the effective development of the developer ecosystem portfolio, and driving innovative solutions that enhance eBay marketplace experience. He/She will collaborate with a global team of engineers, product managers, architects, and analysts to elevate our commerce platform of global commerce through a best-in-class API portfolio and a world-class developer experience. Joining the newly established team, the candidate will have significant influence and opportunities for growth, with an expanded scope and responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the engineering team with a commitment to producing high-quality deliverables while advancing eBay's API-first strategy.
- Drive execution of various solutions by collaborating with cross functional teams in product, engineering, business, support, etc.
- Provide technical leadership, driving and performing the best engineering practices to initiate, plan, and execute large-scale, cross functional, and company-wide critical programs.
- Identify, leverage, and successfully evangelize opportunities to improve engineering productivity. Drive a culture of quality.
- Keep recruiting, mentoring and growing top engineering talent.
- Create a brand for your team by socializing your team’s amazing accomplishments in various internal forums as well as externally via meetups, blogs and conference talks.
Required Qualifications
- BS, MS, or Ph. D. in CS, EE or equivalent.
- 10+ years’ working experience in software development with at least 3 years’ management experiences.
- Proven track record of developing successful platforms and API products to bring value to business.
- Solid coding experience in Java or other mainstream programming languages.
- Hands-on micro service architecture experience with a strong understanding of REST and GraphQL API design principles.
- Familiarity with API testing tools and CI/CD pipelines.
- Solid experience in messaging/streaming applications (Kafka) and popular DBs.
- History of building strong relationships with engineering, business partners, and operational users.
- Experience in building highly scalable, resilient and performant distributed systems.
- Experience in providing tech leadership and industrial best practices to the team.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet objectives and deadlines.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
- Fluent in both verbal and written English.
- History of building a team from the ground up is a plus.
- Working Experience in a multi-national company is a plus.
