Description
Under general supervision, performs quantity cooking at the Juvenile Justice Center, a correctional facility.
SALARY: $13.20 - $18.51 per hour
EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Possible educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% based on completion of Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree.
AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Probation Agency
BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: An additional $.65 to $.90 per hour for Bilingual Certified.
The eligible list established for this recruitment may be used to fill existing and future regular, temporary, fixed-term, intermittent, and extra-help vacancies for this position.

Examples Of Duties
Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To The Following
- Prepares and cooks food in accordance with the State of California requirements for detainee's caloric intake.
- Assists in serving food.
- Maintains cleanliness of working area and equipment.
- May supervise and train detainees to help in the preparation and serving of food.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Typical Qualifications
These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE: Equivalent to one (1) year of responsible experience as a cook in a kitchen preparing a variety of large volume meals. Institutional experience is highly desirable. Experience cooking within a correctional facility is preferred.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid California Driver's License.

APPLICATION EVALUATION – 100%: An Application Evaluation will be conducted. A score will be assigned to each application based upon established criteria. Depending on the number of qualified candidates, a passing score of 70 may be assigned for purposes of placement on the eligible list, and subsequent certification to the department for an interview. Either method, such score will be considered as the final score for placement on the eligible list.
Candidates successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one year.
