Position Description
Under the supervision of the Director of the Early Education Division, the site supervisor/teacher will manage the daily operation of the child development center. The site supervisor will enroll families, supervise staff, ensure the health and safety of children, and ensure compliance with all California Department of Education Early Education Support Division Title 5 and Department of Social Services Title 22 Licensing regulations. The site supervisor will also utilize a computer to create documents and send and receive email, plan curriculum, participate in assessing children, plan and facilitate parent and staff meetings, provide regular reports to the program director, and perform other duties as assigned.
Duties And Responsibilities
Program Leadership:
In cooperation with team members, supervises, plans and implements curriculum that provides support in children’s development across all domains, including Social- Emotional Development, Language and Literacy, English-Language Development, Mathematics, Visual and Performing Arts, Physical Development, Health, History-Social Science and Science.
Create an environment that is supportive, safe and educational.
Understand the USDA meal patterns and implement nutrition program and education in the Center.
Comply with Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) regulations and reporting.
Improve program quality using NAEYC accreditation standards.
Family Engagement -plan and conduct quarterly Parent Meetings on topics of interest to families.
Coordinate and supervise staff in carrying out the Desired Results for Families and Children mandates as follows:
Conduct regular observations of children to assess their strengths and areas of growth and document their developmental progress on the DRDP (desired results developmental profile).
Complete observations and link those observations to DRDP criteria.
Complete Developmental Profile and Written Goals for every child within 60 days of enrollment and every six months thereafter.
Create developmental portfolios as evidence to support the DRDP
Use the DRDP and Developmental Progress Report for Family Conferences to share information and establish goals for child with family.
Use the DRDO and written goals to plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities linked to goals of each individual child as well as the developmental needs and expressed interest of the group.
Tally Developmental Profiles for classroom group and create an Action Plan based on outcome of tally.
Schedule and facilitate quarterly Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meetings to ensure that families engage in the program, support with fundraising efforts and community engagement, and to ensure the program meets their family’s needs.
Provide for the health and safety of all children and adults on site, which will include the development or upkeep of an emergency preparedness plan.
Promote program on social media, website and in community.
Operations Management
Maintain enrollment at sites, which will entail outreach, maintaining a wait list, enrolling eligible families, and gathering necessary documents for family data files.
Participate in monthly billing, issuing invoices, collecting money and issuing receipts.
Maintain accurate attendance records and ensure that children are signed in and out daily.
Create computer documents in Word, Excel, adobe and send/receive email.
Complete regular statistical, attendance, and immunization reports for administration and County of Santa Cruz data reporting.
Supervise and participate in housekeeping tasks, including daily cleaning and set-up of the center.
Plan and coordinate 3 family workdays annually.
Provide ASQ/ASQ-SE (Ages and Stages Questionnaires) to families at various points of children’s development and refer families as needed.
Personnel Management
Provide orientation, training and supervision to staff, substitutes and volunteers.
Provide regular job performance feedback, coaching & modeling to staff.
Plan & facilitate consistent site meetings
Document meetings with staff pertaining to job performance concerns. Provide annual written job performance evaluations and conference with staff.
Professional Conduct
Become familiar with the SEIU contract for union members and ensure supervisory compliance.
Participate in weekly leadership meetings.
Maintain professional competence through participation in Early Education conferences, trainings, and workshops, especially Countywide training activities.
Communicate effectively and respectfully with families, volunteers and other staff at the center, including people from different racial, cultural and ethnic groups and from different backgrounds and lifestyles.

Other Job Details
This is a FLSA confidential exempt position.
This position is eligible for $.40/$.10hr bilingual/biliterate differential upon passing a test administered by the HR department.
Employees may be transferred to another center or have their assigned shift adjusted if needed.
Hours are generally Monday-Friday, but some after-hours attendance will be required for staff meetings, parent/teacher nights, staff training in the evening, and an occasional Saturday workday. Attendance at required meetings is mandatory and a condition of employment.
Regular onsite attendance is required of this position.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience:
Option 1:
Site supervisor permit or higher
At least two (2) years of teaching experience with young children in a group setting.
Option 2:
B.A./B.S. degree in any field with 12 units in either ECE or CD and 3 units of supervised field experience in an ECE or CD setting.
At least two (2) years of teaching experience with young children in a group setting.
Must obtain site supervisor permit within 18 months of hire.
Option 3:
A.A./A.S. degree or higher in early childhood education (ECE) or child development (CD) At least two (2) years of teaching experience with young children in a group setting.
Must obtain a site supervisor permit within 18 months of hire, which requires the following:
Must have or be willing to take eight (8) units of administration and supervision. Enrollment must be verified the first semester after hire.
Must complete 100 days supervising adults.
NOTE: A temporary waiver may be granted for candidates who have not yet completed all requirements if a plan for attaining the qualifications within a reasonable timeline can be demonstrated.

Licensing Requirements
Must pass or already be cleared by a fingerprint background check with the Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing. This includes FBI, DOJ, and Child Abuse Index.
Must provide proof of current immunization records to include DTAP and MMR prior to beginning employment; influenza vaccine or declination form must be submitted annually.
Must undergo Health Screening and TB test within 7 days of employment.
Must provide valid Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification or be willing to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Must complete online CA Mandated Reporter Training every two years.
Physical Requirements
Ability to write, use the telephone, and operate center equipment.
Physical strength sufficient to lift up to 40 pounds
Ability to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, to reach overhead and run.
Ability to move rapidly around the work environment on varied surfaces indoors and outdoors, offices, and to respond to emergency situations.
Ability to sit in a child's chair, squat at children's eye level for prolonged periods of time and to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time.
Ability to read printed materials and to see at a distance.
Ability to hear sufficiently to conduct in-person conversations with adults and children and telephone conversations.
Speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance, on the telephone, and in addressing groups.
Other Requirements
Must complete agency anti-harassment training within six (6) months of hire and every two (2) years thereafter.
Possess a valid CA driver’s license, adequate vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation in order to attend business away from Center.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience teaching/administering a federal or state funded program.
Experience using Learning Genie for developmental assessments and family engagement.
Experience with creating/evaluating reports and data for program quality & improvement.
Experience using electronic database systems (i.e. HUBBE, Paycom, Concur, Egnyte, Outlook, CAIR)
Experience working with diverse groups of children/families, including dual language learners and children with disabilities.
Knowledge of Teaching Pyramid Social Emotional Framework
Experience with CLASS/environments
Bilingual/biliterate and bicultural, English/Spanish preferred
