Overall Summary: The Shipping Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and timely movement of materials and finished goods from production to the warehouse and ultimately to our customers. This position is responsible for leading a team within the shipping department, optimizing workflow, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and customer requirements. The Shipping Supervisor will also be accountable for inventory management, team leadership, and continuous improvement initiatives that align with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management:
Direct and lead the daily operations of the shipping department, ensuring safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Mentor and develop a team of forklift drivers and warehouse staff, fostering a culture of fairness, consistency, and open communication.
Collaborate with other Shipping Supervisors to ensure seamless transitions between shifts and avoid operational disruptions.
Logistics & Workflow Optimization:
Oversee the movement of freight from production to the warehouse and coordinate shipments to customers, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
Analyze and adjust production schedules to optimize delivery times and minimize costs while maintaining high standards of quality and service.
Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and achieve departmental goals.
Inventory & Equipment Management:
Ensure accurate inventory counts, production tagging, and pallet management, maintaining high standards of organization within the warehouse.
Coordinate repairs and maintenance of forklifts and dock equipment, liaising with vendors or the Shipping Manager as necessary.
Monitor and manage the quarantine area, ensuring compliance with all safety and quality protocols.
Communication & Documentation:
Serve as the primary point of contact for safety concerns, quality issues, and delivery challenges, escalating to management as needed.
Maintain comprehensive records, including inspection sheets, housekeeping documents, and bills of lading (BOLs), ensuring timely and accurate filing.
Facilitate cross-departmental communication, supporting collaborative efforts to meet organizational objectives.
Compliance & Continuous Improvement:
Uphold and enforce all company policies and procedures, including safety programs and housekeeping standards.
Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in warehouse management and logistics, applying this knowledge to drive continuous improvement.
Skills & Abilities:
Proven leadership capabilities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Strong understanding of warehouse management systems and logistics best practices.
Proficiency in operating forklifts and other material handling equipment.
Advanced computer skills, with a strong command of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively lead and collaborate with a diverse team.
Familiarity with Kiwiplan or other logistics software is a plus.
Experience & Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a high-volume shipping department, with prior experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Demonstrated experience in managing modern material handling equipment in a box plant or similar setting is highly desirable.
Proven track record of driving process improvements and achieving operational excellence.
Additional Information:
This position may require occasional overtime or shift work to meet organizational demands.
Additional duties may be assigned by management to support business needs.
