The ideal Senior Transportation Engineer will have 10+ years of experience, specifically with expertise working with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NC DOT).

Responsibilities

  • Play a pivotal role in the design, analysis, and implementation of roadway projects, ensuring strict adherence to NC DOT regulations and standards.
  • Your technical proficiency and familiarity with NC DOT policies and procedures will be essential in delivering safe, efficient, and sustainable roadway solutions.
  • Actively participate in diverse roadway design and transportation projects, including but not limited to data collection, alignment establishment, engineering calculations, and plan preparation.

Qualifications

  • Advanced proficiency with design-related software such as MicroStation, Open Roads Designer, Geopak, and Corridor Modeler, particularly Word and Excel, is required.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding surveys, drawings, and legal descriptions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to efficiently complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision, focusing on client service (internal and external).
  • Highly motivated to learn and grow professionally in a supportive team environment.
  • Experience with Design-Bid-Build projects is a valuable asset.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong organizational, project, and time management skills.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US.
  • Must complete a pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace.

Education And Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
  • 10 + years of engineering experience in transportation/design with strong technical skills in roadway design.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification preferred or EIT with 5+ years of related experience.
  • Experience with North Carolina Department of Transportation (NC DOT) systems, policies, and procedures.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position predominantly involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation, with occasional standing and walking. The employee may occasionally lift lightweight office supplies and materials, typically not exceeding 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors, characterized by controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods.

Expected Hours of Work

The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily. Work schedules may vary according to the project schedule. This is an onsite position reporting to the ICE office 5 days per week.
