Job Description

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and optimizing both our on-premise infrastructure and cloud environments (AWS/Azure). This role requires a strong foundation in systems engineering while leveraging cloud technologies to enhance infrastructure efficiency, scalability, and reliability.

Responsibilities

Server Administration

  • Perform troubleshooting, patching, system builds, and general administration.
  • Implement, monitor, operate, and optimize on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure systems.
  • Respond to and remediate alerts after hours as required.

Cloud Architecture & Deployment

  • Design and implement scalable, secure, and highly available cloud solutions on AWS and Azure.
  • Migrate on-premise workloads to the cloud, ensuring performance, compliance, and cost-efficiency.
  • Optimize cloud environments for financial applications, ensuring low latency and high reliability.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement cloud security best practices, including IAM, encryption, logging, and network security.
  • Ensure compliance with financial industry regulations (FINRA, SOC 2).
  • Monitor and respond to security threats, vulnerabilities, and incidents in the cloud environment.
  • Work closely with the security team to remediate identified vulnerabilities.

Operations & Monitoring

  • Manage cloud services, including EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, Route 53, AKS, Azure VMs, and Azure Functions.
  • Configure and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting using AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, or similar tools.
  • Troubleshoot cloud infrastructure issues while optimizing for cost and performance.

Collaboration & Best Practices

  • Work closely with DevOps, security, and development teams to ensure seamless cloud integration.
  • Follow operational best practices to enhance security, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Contribute to cloud technology roadmaps to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Take a proactive approach to identifying innovative solutions for infrastructure and architecture challenges.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience managing VMware/vCenter infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of networking, security, IAM, and compliance in cloud environments.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, or Bicep).
  • Scripting experience with Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
  • Experience with hybrid cloud environments and cloud-to-on-prem integrations.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and familiarity with cloud monitoring tools.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong analytical skills to align IT initiatives with business goals.
  • Ability to facilitate cross-functional collaboration and intake initiatives across departments.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting to support business and IT decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and documentation.
  • Experience formalizing IT functions into structured services.
  • Ability to work independently while aligning with technology leadership direction.
