Eaton's IS AER FMC division is currently seeking a Senior Sustaining Engineer. The Grand Rapids facility has approximately 170 employees and is a leader in the design, development, manufacturing and delivery of Aerospace actuations & controls components, systems, and services to the global aftermarket and OEM markets.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $83250.0 - $122100.0 a year.

What you'll do:
The Sr. Sustaining Engineer will support product improvement initiatives for current Eaton Grand Rapids Electromechanical Actuation Products. Assignments will be predominantly focused on customer and supplier support, root cause analysis, cost reduction, reliability, and quality improvements. Eaton Grand Rapids products include motor controllers, motors, electrical boards, gears, ball screws, no-back mechanisms, clutches, brakes, housings, electronic enclosures, bearings, pins, screws, and other related components. Additionally, the incumbent is expected to provide technical support to the operations personnel, new product development team, and procurement group as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
* Drive momentum product improvements for Retrofit, Modification, and Upgrade (RMU) projects and cost reduction through engineering analysis, redesign and verification.
* Work with customer service to support customer product inquiries regarding momentum products. Read and interpret internal and customer product specifications and make recommendations for enhancements based on engineering analysis.
* Coordinate with internal and external customers to perform formal root cause and corrective action activities on production and fielded actuation product design problems.
* Sustain product viability through proactive evaluation and redesign of hardware with obsolete components.
* Work with Supply Chain, external suppliers, and High Performance work teams (HPWT) to support and drive product cost reduction initiatives and promote growth through product reliability and design quality improvements.
* Work with customer service to support customer product inquiries regarding exsisting products. Read and interpret internal and customer product specifications and make recommendations for enhancements based on engineering analysis
* Perform VAVE activities in support of site profit plan goals.
* Develop test plans, specifications and general test procedures for requalification activities; Coordinate requalification testing, advise test personnel supporting efforts, evaluate test results and develop test reports.
* Support Eaton MESH safety activities related to product design and design for manufacturability.
* Support FRACAS system development, tracking, and metric development
Qualifications:
Basic (Required) Experience:
* Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
* 3+ years of Product Design/Support experience
* Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future
* This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Preferred Experience:
* Knowledge of Catia, ProE, or other 3D design tool
* Basic materials and processes knowledge for metals
* Experience with structured problem solving.
* Hands on experience with designing and /or building mechanical components and systems.
* Experience with materials and processes utilized in aerospace applications.
* Knowledge of FAA regulations as they pertain to part certification and repair station operations.
* Working knowledge of electric motors, gearboxes, and ball screws.
