We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who can help us make quick progress on data engineering projects. In this team, we are using the big data sets that our hardware systems generate in order to optimize and improve customer experience using machine learning models. We are well on our way but need a great engineer to improve our pipelines and ML-reliant products. In your first months at Tarana, you will design, build, and implement highly scalable and performant systems. Four key deliverables:

1. Data Engineering: Develop new pipelines and optimize existing ones.
2. Data Warehousing: Improve SQL schema designs, migrate and upgrade existing schemas to new DataBricks versions, implement Unity catalogue and optimize our data models
3. Analysis and improvement: collaborate with our ML experts to improve our models and model workflows.
4. Assisting downstream users in utilizing our data warehouse for analysis 

You will work in a small team of 4-5 hands-on engineers with a passion for driving constant improvement and value to the company.

Required Experience and Skills:

• Strong skills in Object Oriented and/or Functional languages: Python (a must), and Scala (nice to have).  We will consider C++, Java, Rust, or GoLang if you have a good understanding of Python.
• 8+ years of experience building core microservices, software development projects, and data pipeline engineering.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Pandas, and SQL is required.
• Experience with one of the following: AWS, GCP, or Azure is required.
• Experience with data warehousing and end-to-end data platforms such as DataBricks is preferred. Will consider: Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift.
• Experience with open-source models, ML, AI in a production environment.
• BS in Computer Science; Masters or higher preferred.

Note: we are looking for a great developer working with data engineering. We are not looking for DevOps, solely-scripting gurus, solely-data scientists, solely-model builders, or testers. You will be expected to pass a rigorous interview process that will primarily test your basic and expert software coding skills. The best candidate will be able to think in an agile way, use necessary tools to get working prototypes working within quick timeframes, and be able to use whatever coding language is necessary for the specific use cases.This position is 100% on-site Milpitas, CA (Bay Area). Relocation will be considered for the right candidate.

The base salary range for this position is: $180,000 to $240,000
