Summary

Join the revolution to free entrepreneurs

Commercial insurance needs to change. Insify was born out of our frustration with how traditional insurers operate. Whereas fintechs have permanently reshaped the finance industry, tech has not yet disrupted insurance. We are well underway to reshape the dull and tedious image of insurance to be engaging, easy, and fair (yes, really!).

We are a tech company at heart, building our very own insurtech platform. We extensively rely on data (API integrations, automated workflows, rule engines, natural language processing, machine learning) to figure out how to best get (and keep) our customer’s companies insured. Combine that with our fully online portal, real attention to UX, and leading underwriting, then getting your business insured may just become a surprisingly straight-forward experience.

Insify is a team led by seasoned entrepreneurs who have built several successful tech scale-ups in the past. We raised a tidy €15M Series A round from one of the leading investors worldwide: Accel Ventures, and are ready to take on our European competitors! We sell our very own Insify insurance products by partnering with Munich Re, the #1 reinsurer globally.

Your mission

You will build out the heart of Insify: a fully automated platform to underwrite insurances, based on extensive data. This is where rule engines, workflows, data feeds from external sources as well as our event-sourced web applications come together. This platform will be the day-to-day cockpit for our underwriters. So performance, UX, and quality of data will be as critical as for external customers.

You will be one of the early developers on this team, working with our automated quote funnel and customer portal teams. Among others, you work with event-sourcing, serverless lambda functions in AWS, NoSQL databases, and big data. You take full responsibility for the products you develop with the team and continuously improve and refactor to meet new business needs.

What you'll need

Below we share a list of qualities that we’re looking for in a person. But we also know that some people, often women, do not apply when they can’t reply YES to everything on the list.

That’s why we’d like you to consider this list as a guideline and not as a requirement.

We are looking for amazing humans, not someone who ticks ALL boxes. So if this role seems like something for you, go ahead and apply!

Coding is your bread and butter. We know that a true full-stack engineer is a proper unicorn, and are looking for dominant backend experience. You can stand your ground in the frontend though. As our platform is all about data, interest or experience in big data is a big plus.

You have seen your fair share of microservice architecture, programming paradigms and languages. You love to use Typescript's power to avoid errors. You know how to architect a clean solution that prevents security, performance, and maintenance pitfalls. You have a strong focus on test-first and quality. You like to learn and make sure you stay on top of technological developments.

The Techie Details

  • You have an affinity and experience in backend development in NodeJS and Typescript. Experience in other languages helps to bring perspective.
  • You know your way around in React or Vue to some extent.
  • You prefer strongly typed and functional languages to simply know it works when the build says “ok”, with Clean Coding as your daily mantra.
  • You can demonstrate you created challenging software. Large-scale, applications beyond the 2,000-line textbook example. More than once.
  • DevOps experience, esp. Amazon Web Services (AWS), is a plus.
  • ML, big data experience won't hurt either.
  • You have an engineering degree (MSc or equivalent, PhD most welcome) in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Given the insurtech domain, relevant experience in the insurance or finance industry is certainly a plus.

In return, we offer

  • Unparalleled opportunities for (professional) growth - this will be the ride of a lifetime
  • High degree of autonomy and ownership
  • Be in the driver seat at a rapidly growing scale-up - ability to responsibility for strategy and execution to build a strong international brand

  • Work in a start-up environment, yet in cooperation with the largest reinsurer in the world
  • Remote-friendly culture, with a hip Amsterdam office/ co-working space
  • International vibe (English speaking company)
