Job Title: Senior R&D Engineer Job Description The primary focus of this mechanical role is to apply Design for Excellence (DFX) principles, such as Design for Manufacturability (DFM), early in the product development process to reduce manufacturing costs, improve quality, and streamline production. The Senior R&D Engineer will work with contract manufacturers to implement scalable processes by building adaptable and flexible systems that can efficiently increase production volumes while maintaining quality and controlling expenses. This role requires developing a strong understanding of the current design technology and involvement in new product development projects to establish high-quality mechanical designs, rapid prototype development, design input requirements, risk documentation, test methods, and verification testing. The engineer will interface across multiple parts of the organization including manufacturing, production, supply chain, quality, regulatory, and other engineering teams. Responsibilities * Develop mechanical designs for new product development projects and current product enhancements with a focus on manufacturable, scalable, and cost-effective solutions. * Build and test preliminary ideas using rapid prototyping tools to evaluate design concepts and iterate toward final solutions. * Conduct risk management documentation including hazard analysis and failure modes and effects analyses (FMEA/FMECA) to identify and mitigate design and process risks. * Lead root cause analysis investigations for product failures and test anomalies using structured approaches such as 5 Whys, fishbone diagram, design of experiments (DOE), and statistical analysis. Essential Skills * Experience in medical device design for excellence and manufacturability. * Proficiency in cost optimization and design control. * Skills in prototype development and root cause analysis. * Familiarity with CAD tools like SolidWorks, CNC machining, and 3D printing. Additional Skills & Qualifications * Knowledge of hazard analysis and failure modes and effects analyses (FMEA/FMECA). * Experience in developing design history files (DHF). Work Environment The work environment involves collaboration across multiple departments including manufacturing, production, supply chain, quality, regulatory, and engineering teams. It requires the use of advanced technologies such as CNC machining and 3D printing, and proficiency with CAD tools like SolidWorks.
