About Us:
Ambience is developing the most capable AI systems for healthcare and medicine. As healthcare costs soar to 17.3% of US GDP and a projected shortage of 100,000 physicians within the next decade, the need for AI is critical. Our frontline healthcare workers are overwhelmed, with only 27% of the average clinician's day spent on direct patient care.
Our vision is to advance healthcare by empowering clinicians with safe, intelligent AI agents that improve quality, reduce costs, and enhance both patient and provider experiences.
Headquartered in San Francisco, we have secured $100M in funding from top investors, including Kleiner Perkins, OpenAI Startup Fund, Andreessen Horowitz, Optum Ventures, Human Capital, and Martin Ventures. We collaborate with leading AI experts such as Jeff Dean, Richard Socher, Pieter Abbeel, and AIX Ventures.
Join us in the endeavor of accelerating the path to safe & useful clinical super intelligence by becoming part of our community of problem solvers, technologists, clinicians, and innovators.
The Role:
As we scale our footprint across clinical settings, quality is mission-critical. We’re looking for a seasoned Quality Engineer to own end-to-end product reliability across mobile, web, EMR, and API surfaces. You’ll introduce lightweight, high-leverage testing systems and feedback loops that allow us to ship faster with greater confidence—without compromising safety in clinical workflows.
Our engineering roles are
hybrid — working onsite at our San Francisco office
three days per week.
What You’ll Do:
Own and scale quality processes across the full Ambience product stack—mobile, desktop, browser extensions, EMR integrations, and APIs. Drive test coverage by coordinating offshore QA efforts and building automation for happy-path regression suites (Appium, XCTest, Playwright, etc). Integrate quality into our CI pipeline, ensuring pre-release testing takes <15 minutes and gives engineers confidence to ship. Cut defect rates through clear triage processes, root-cause postmortems, and proactive bug detection tooling. Instrument quality metrics across coverage, test flakiness, defect density, and resolution time—shared transparently via dashboards. Prototype high-leverage improvements across tooling and process to continually raise the bar on reliability and speed.
Who You Are:
- Technically strong: 7+ years in QA or software engineering with experience debugging across full stacks (Swift, TypeScript, Node, Postgres, cloud infra).
- Automation-first: Experience with Appium, XCTest, Playwright, or similar testing frameworks; skilled in scripting and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
- Builder mindset: You thrive in ambiguity and love standing up greenfield processes. You bias toward automation and high-impact tooling.
- Strong communicator: You write crisp test plans and defect reports that are consumable by both engineers and clinicians.
- Proactive partner: You run bug bash sessions, support launch readiness, and rally engineers toward long-term fixes—not just short-term patches.
- System thinker: You trace issues across codebases and workflows, looking for root causes and upstream solutions.
- Nice to Have:
- Prior success bootstrapping or scaling QA efforts in early-stage or high-growth tech environments
- Familiarity with healthcare workflows or regulated domains
- Experience using AI tools or generating tests programmatically
- Fluency in TypeScript, Swift, or relevant mobile/web development stacks
