Job Title: Senior Manual and API Test Engineer

Reporting To: Manager, Quality Engineering & Testing

Job Purpose

The Senior Manual and API Test Engineer is a critical member of the Digital Quality Engineering & Testing team, responsible for leading and executing end-to-end testing across web, mobile, and API platforms. This role ensures high-quality, stable, and compliant releases by managing manual and API testing across SIT, UAT, and Production environments. It involves close collaboration with development and release teams, mentoring junior testers, and continuously improving test strategies, tools, and processes to reduce defect leakage and enhance customer experience.

Key Responsibilities1. Test Planning

• Understand project requirements, define testing scope, and lead test planning activities.
• Conduct daily stand-ups, share progress updates, and flag blockers promptly.
• Ensure alignment with project/release timelines through well-structured test plans.

2. Test Case Design & Preparation

• Collaborate with QA and automation teams to design and review manual and API test cases.
• Prepare regression test data and validate test readiness for different environments.
• Lead test case reviews pre- and post-execution to ensure completeness and RTM coverage.

3. Test Execution

• Execute test cases across SIT, UAT, staging, and production environments.
• Support emergency releases, hotfixes, and production validation based on test support rosters.
• Report test progress and issues transparently to project stakeholders.

4. Defect Tracking & Triage

• Log, tag, and track defects using Jira; ensure timely triage and closure.
• Lead root cause analysis sessions to minimize repeat defects and production issues.
• Maintain defect metrics and drive continuous quality improvements.

5. Reporting & Test Closure

• Prepare test execution summaries, API test reports (e.g., via Newman), and status reports.
• Document test closure reports, sign-offs, and productivity summaries in Confluence.
• Maintain traceability and test documentation across all test cycles.

6. API Testing & Strategy

• Own the full API testing lifecycle from requirement review to scripting, execution, and sign-off.
• Design reusable test frameworks using Postman, Newman, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Handle complex validations including token-based auth, DB checks, and middleware flows.
• Prioritize and automate key API test cases and ensure they are integrated into release pipelines.

7. Team Collaboration & Knowledge Management

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Developers, Product Owners, Release Managers) to ensure alignment on quality goals.
• Mentor and upskill junior testers in functional and API testing best practices.
• Document and maintain test strategies, RTMs, module flows, and knowledge assets in Confluence.

8. Continuous Improvement

• Proactively identify and implement improvements in testing frameworks, processes, and documentation.
• Actively participate in retrospectives and propose solutions to improve test effectiveness.

RequirementsEducation

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

Experience

• 3+ years of experience in manual and API testing of large-scale enterprise applications.
• Experience with SIT, UAT, and production-level testing for mobile, web, and API platforms.
• Background in financial or regulated environments is preferred.
• Hands-on experience managing defect triage, production issues, and urgent release testing.

Skills & Competencies (Must-Have)

• Strong knowledge of software testing lifecycle, techniques, and defect management.
• Expertise in Postman and Newman for API testing; experience in scripting and framework setup.
• Familiarity with test automation using Postman CLI, Newman, or Katalon.
• Proficiency in Jira, Confluence, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct RCA and propose fixes.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Good to Have

• Experience with API test cases involving authentication, DB validations, and middleware testing.
• Exposure to CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and automation frameworks.
• ISTQB certification or relevant QA credentials.
• Knowledge of legacy systems and their integration with modern platforms.
