The Senior Property Accounting team at Essex works directly with the Operations team to manage the financial activities of each residential community. The goal of the team is to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. The Senior Property Accountant position is responsible for the preparation of bank reconciliations, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and income and expense analytics. A candidate should have attention to detail and strong analytical, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
* Submit complete and accurate recurring and monthly Journal Entries.
* Reconcile and complete balance sheet account reconciliations.
* Have a solid understanding of sub ledger data and its impact on financial statements.
* Prepare bank reconciliations in a timely manner.
* Ensure the clearing of checks and deposits and receipts on a daily basis.
* Review the accuracy and completeness of monthly rent postings.
* Research, analyze and provide meaningful and accurate information and report as required.
* Work with the team lead to provide variance explanations and account information is required.
* Communicate professionally with community managers.
* Assist with other ad hoc requests and reports as needed.
* Assist in preparing Joint Venture Reporting and its requirements.
* Ensure that checks received are timely deposited to the bank and to the correct bank account.
* Assist with internal and external audit requests as needed.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
* Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in accounting or related field.
* 5+ years of multi-family property management accounting experience or relevant real estate accounting experience.
* Yardi experience preferred.
WHAT THE JOB REQUIRES:
* Work is primarily conducted in an office setting. Requires sitting at a desk or workstation for extended periods. Involves the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers.
* Operates in a fast-paced work setting. Requires the ability to multitask and adapt quickly to changing priorities. May involve tight deadlines and high-energy work situations.
* This role demands availability for five days each week, with the potential for including weekends in the schedule as necessary.
* Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Minimal physical effort in the day-to-day tasks.
* This role does not require any travel; work is primarily conducted at the office.

The salary range for this position is $81,000.00 - $114,000.00 per year. New hires generally start between $81,000.00 - $99,000.00 per year. The final salary offer will be determined after reviewing relevant factors, including but not limited to skill sets; relevant experience; internal equity; and other business and organizational needs.
This role is also eligible to participate in Essex's discretionary Annual Bonus program that is commensurate with the level of the position.
