Role Purpose
The Senior Project Engineer plays a key role in the successful delivery of offshore EPCI cable lay projects. They are responsible for understanding and executing specific work scopes in line with client requirements, project specifications and permitting obligations. Acting as a technical and operational focal point, the Senior Project Engineer ensures efficient preparation and execution of the scope they are assigned, including coordination of methodology, equipment and subcontractors.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Scope Familiarisation & Planning
- Review and understand the client specifications, contract scope and all applicable permitting requirements.
- Ensure all activities are aligned with regulatory, environmental and HSE constraints.
- Identify the interfaces, constraints and deliverables related to the assigned scope.
Methodology & Execution Planning
- Develop detailed method statements for the assigned work scope in alignment with project requirements.
- Coordinate internal reviews and ensure methodology complies with Company standards, client requirements and industry best practices.
- Lead risk assessments, readiness reviews and scenario planning.
Equipment & Resource Coordination
- Identify and plan the equipment, tools and materials required for execution.
- Liaise with internal departments and suppliers to ensure availability of all critical assets on time.
- Confirm equipment suitability and compliance with project and offshore requirements.
Subcontractor & Interface Management
- Manage and coordinate subcontractors involved in the delivery of the assigned scope.
- Define deliverables, monitor performance and ensure adherence to schedule and quality requirements.Act as a key point of contact between subcontractors and project stakeholders.
- Monitor spend for each subcontractor and ensure adherence to budget.
Execution Support & Handover
- Provide engineering and operational support during offshore execution.
- Monitor execution progress and support resolution of technical and logistical issues.
- Ensure that all project documentation, redlines and as-built information are delivered and closed out.
Key Tasks
- Lead/Support bid and tender development with Technical Deliverables as assigned and required within the bid specification and in alignment with best industry practice. Support the development of Commercial Tender Submissions.
- Support internal and internal projects by managing the development or personally developing of MDR deliverables within your assigned package or area of responsibility including but not limited to Procedures, Risk Assessments, Lift Plans, Task Plans, QHSE documents, RFQ/ITT/SoW’s, Schedules, Budgets and Cost Sheets.
- Interface with internal departments and stakeholders.
- Manage project teams, packages, suppliers, subcontractors and services as required.
- Endeavour to progress towards professional registration (if not already registered) and record CPD.
- To set goals and track, measure and record progress against them that are aligned with your personal aspirations, departmental objectives and business objectives.
- Mentor an assigned member of the Engineering department and take on responsibility for select elements of their professional and personal development as part of your own.
- Contribute suggestions and provide both positive and constructive feedback as part of the continuous improvement of yourself and of the business.
- Perform other duties as reasonably assigned to you.

Education and Qualifications Specific to Role
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Offshore, Marine or related discipline).
Desirable Qualifications or Equivalent Experience
- Formal Project Management Training to a fundamentals level.
- Supplementary formal training in a Health & Safety, Operational or Functional subject.
- IEng/CEng registered.
- Previous experience in project engineering within the offshore or subsea EPCI environment.
- Solid understanding of offshore cable installation techniques and equipment.
- Previous experience with drafting method statements and coordinating field execution.
Demonstrable Experience Specific to Role
- Experienced in lay and/or burial operations and/or landfall cable activities & performed senior roles operationally offshore/on site, mobilisations and demobilisations. Or experienced in subsea construction as an alternative.
- Lead project teams and packages.
- Lead packages of bid & tender development (Technical & Commercial).
- Lead and/or participated in procurement activities up to and including subcontracting services.
- Familiar with Microsoft Packages including Office and MS Project.
- Familiar with CAD packages.
