SMART Photonics is looking for a Senior Process Engineer – Epitaxy to strengthen our team. In this role, you will focus on the operational aspects of Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) to enable high-quality epitaxial growth for our advanced photonic semiconductor devices. You will drive process improvements, ensure stable and efficient operations, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to meet our customers’ requirements.
Key Responsibilities
MOCVD Process Development & Optimization:
Develop, optimize, and sustain MOCVD epitaxy processes for III-V compound semiconductors.
Fine-tune process parameters to achieve target material properties (composition, thickness, uniformity, doping levels).
Maintain high reproducibility and yield in volume production.
Operational Excellence & Reactor Management
Take ownership of the daily operation of Aixtron MOCVD reactors to ensure smooth and efficient production.
Troubleshoot process deviations, reactor performance issues, and material quality concerns.
Collaborate with maintenance teams to schedule and execute reactor maintenance and cleaning cycles.
Drive efficiency improvements to maximize tool uptime and process stability.
Process Monitoring & Data-Driven Decision Making
Implement and maintain Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies to monitor process performance and ensure quality.
Analyze in-line metrology data (XRD, PL, AFM, SEM, Hall Effect, etc.) to assess material quality and drive improvements.
Actively contribute to continuous process innovation to enhance product performance and yield.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with device engineering, failure analysis, and integration teams to align epitaxial growth processes with customer needs.
Provide technical leadership in troubleshooting and problem-solving activities.
Support and mentor junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of operational excellence.
Qualifications & Experience
Master’s or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
5+ years of hands-on experience with MOCVD epitaxy, preferably using Aixtron reactors.
