Senior Power Systems Expert: Power Electronics (director level)

Join our team at Copenhagen Energy

Are you passionate about revolutionizing the energy landscape through cutting-edge technology? Do you want to play a key role in the global integration of renewable energy sources, connecting wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) into the power grid?

At Copenhagen Energy, we are on a mission to make renewable energy accessible and affordable everywhere. As we scale globally, we invite you to join our highly skilled team to help shape the energy systems of the future.

The Opportunity

As our international pipeline continues to grow, we are looking for a Senior Power Systems Expert to lead the technical integration of renewable energy into the grid. You will be instrumental in designing and delivering future-proof energy systems that ensure grid stability, regulatory compliance, and seamless integration with balancing markets.

This is a unique opportunity to work hands-on with advanced power electronics, support international project development, and engage with system operators, partners, and suppliers to bring impactful energy solutions to life. If you’re ready to take on this exciting challenge, we believe that this role is perfect for you!

Responsibilities

  • Grid Integration and grid application: Drive the electrical integration of wind, solar, and BESS into the grid and energy markets, from early stages to commissioning. Take the lead on the grid connection application processes.
  • TSO/DSO and OEM Coordination: Manage technical and regulatory discussions with the TSO (Energinet and potentially German TSOs), DSOs, OEMs, and external engineering consultants to ensure grid code compliance and project feasibility.
  • Electrical System Design: Lead the design of transformers, HV/MV switchgear, grid interface solutions and the programming of Power Plant Controllers. Collaborate with the engineering design team to optimize the plant design.
  • Technical Procurement: Manage and support the engineering team in the evaluation, selection and procurement of electrical components. Conduct due diligence, including the assessment of power conversion systems, control systems, balance of plant system design, and battery systems from multiple vendors.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, EPC contractors, OEMs, and grid operators throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Commissioning and Testing: Oversee and coordinate commissioning activities and system testing to ensure safe, reliable, and grid-compliant operation.
  • New opportunities: Collaborate with the development team to identify and assess new opportunities from a grid connection perspective.
  • Stay up to date: Keep informed on industry developments and continually seek innovative solutions to streamline the connection process.
  • New markets: Investigate power system modelling requirements and grid connection procedures in emerging international markets, particularly across Europe.

What We Offer

At Copenhagen Energy, we believe in building a workplace where you can thrive, grow, and make a meaningful contribution to the world. By joining our team, you'll benefit from:

  • Exceptional Team: Join a highly professional, international, and ambitious team with a shared drive to succeed.
  • Exciting Growth Environment: Be a part of a young, rapidly expanding company with a vibrant scale-up atmosphere.
  • Meaningful Impact: Join a visionary organization driving the energy transition and contribute directly to a more sustainable future.
  • Career path: Lead and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with OEMs, consultants, and regulators, developing your technical and managerial skills.
  • Flexibility and Well-being: Enjoy flexible work arrangements that support your work-life balance.
  • Strong Culture: Participate in both social and professional events, including team sports, company parties, and informal gatherings that strengthen our team spirit.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Education: Master’s degree in electrical, control, power electronics, power system engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant Experience: + 5 years of proven experience in power systems, grid integration, and electrical power engineering. Hands-on experience with utility-scale energy storage systems or renewable power systems.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in power system simulation tools such as PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSCAD, Python, VBA, etc.
  • Project Ownership: Ability to manage complex projects independently, solve technical challenges, and ensure high-quality system performance.
  • Agility, Curiosity and Decision-Making: Comfortable working in a small, fast-paced team with the ability to make critical decisions quickly. A proactive mindset with a willingness to learn, adapt, and grow in a dynamic sector.
  • Location: You will be based at our office in Carlsberg Byen, Copenhagen.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel periodically.
  • Language Proficiency: Professional fluency in Danish and English is required; German is an advantage.
