The Opportunity:
We are seeking motivated individuals to fill the following roles across our Darwin, Nhulunbuy and Alice Springs Offices:
- Strategy, Planning and Coordination Senior Officer, Central Group
- Assistant Director, Strategy, Planning and Coordination, Central Group
The work of Central Group is responsible for a range of regional, NT-wide and nationally focused strategies, partnerships and programs. Regional programs include leading the Government’s delegation to the annual Garma Festival in Arnhem Land, supporting large infrastructure projects and leading economic development, including the transition from mining. National strategic projects include delivering on the Government’s commitments to remote food security, including implementing the remote food security strategy, developing and implementing a code for remote store operations and supporting a range of governance mechanisms. NT-based partnerships include leading strategic planning for Central Australia, supporting NT-based Closing the Gap partnerships and managing intergovernmental relationships.
As a Senior Policy Officer you will:
- provide appropriate advice and managing the resolution of issues or complaints
- undertake complex procedural, administrative and service-related tasks that support NIAA business activities
- gather and analyse relevant data to assess the impacts and outcomes for Indigenous Australians
- provide strategic advice and specialist expertise across a broad range of activities including economic empowerment programs and initiatives
- research, analyse and respond to complex technical enquiries and sensitive complaints, leveraging the expertise of others to assist in high quality responses and resolution
- develop branch risk management plans using the NIAA Risk Management Framework
- monitor risks and mitigate emerging risk and realised issues via effective policy and process.
In addition, as an Assistant Director, you will:
- oversee activities to set the strategic direction for the branch, aligned with NIAA Corporate Plan and Areas of Focus and broader strategic agenda of Government
- manage budget, business, risk and quality assurance planning processes for the group using the appropriate NIAA frameworks
- ensure the development of strategic and operational plans aimed at achieving identified outcomes within the branch and objectives of the Agency
- monitor and report on the performance and quality of branch outputs and projects, against key performance indicators and quality metrics
- review branch performance from a wide range of sources to analyse trends and implement interventions as necessary
- escalate ongoing systemic issues for review and correction, in consultation with the wider Branch Leadership Team
- prepare, review or delegate creation of reports, briefs or any other documents required by the Director, senior executive team, Agency governance committees and its advisory committees.

In addition, to be successful in an EL1 Assistant Director role you will also demonstrate the following attributes:
- oversee and facilitate strategic planning and executive management services to support the Operations and Delivery work program and other NIAA Senior Executives as required
- inform and advocate for evidence-based policy and programs
- work closely with First Nations people, federal and state/territory counterparts, and non-government partners
- model and promote the NIAA values and behaviours to deliver with purpose for First Nations people in Australia
- ensure effective messaging and activities related to organisation change are clear and modelled by the branch leadership team
- facilitate the provision of expert analysis and business intelligence to the leadership team who are overseeing the delivery of the work program to achieve outcomes for NIAA stakeholders, providers and partners.

- The occupant must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected) level security clearance, or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level.
