Barrington James is recruiting for an experienced Senior Optical Design Engineer to join a pioneering medical device company at the forefront of ophthalmic innovation. This full-time, on-site role in Worthing, UK, offers the chance to work on next-generation intraocular lenses (IOLs) and drive advancements in vision care.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead the design, development, and testing of intraocular lenses (IOLs) and ophthalmic products
• Apply advanced optics knowledge to solve complex design challenges
• Collaborate with R&D, surgeons, and research teams to develop innovative solutions
• Perform risk assessments and drive product improvement initiatives
• Ensure compliance with medical device regulations (ISO 13485, FDA, MDR)

What We’re Looking For:

• Master’s or PhD in Physics or related field
• 5+ years of Zemax & MATLAB experience
• Strong background in optical design principles & validation methods
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to lead projects & work autonomously
