Position Overview:
The Georgia Superior Court Clerks’ Cooperative Authority (GSCCCA), a client of Millennium Information Tek, is seeking a Senior Network Engineer. The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for providing expert-level technical leadership to ensure the performance, reliability, and security of the GSCCCA statewide network. The network spans approximately 165 WAN sites and multiple datacenters. The Senior Network Engineer will design, implement, deploy, document, and maintain network technologies and infrastructure. This individual plays a critical role in issue resolution, network hardening, and ensuring continuous improvement initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides subject matter expertise to ensure the reliability, integrity, and scalability of GSCCCA's statewide network infrastructure.
- Acts as a technical lead and backup to the Network Manager; provides mentorship and guidance to Network Engineers and Administrators.
- Designs, deploys, and supports LANs, WANs, VPNs (including GlobalProtect/IPSec), and network appliances including firewalls, routers, switches, and cloud-based GTM systems.
- Leads the migration efforts from Cisco to Palo Alto and Meraki network solutions.
- Plans, implements, and manages network modernization projects.
- Architects network topologies and solutions to meet evolving business and technical requirements.
- Configures and supports LAN/WAN infrastructure, Internet circuits, VPNs, and remote access technologies.
- Monitors and optimizes network uptime, utilization, and latency.
- Maximizes network performance through proactive monitoring, upgrades, and process improvements.
- Analyzes and troubleshoots network outages and service degradation incidents.
- Creates and maintains technical documentation, including network diagrams, configuration procedures, troubleshooting guides, and operational runbooks.
- Maintains and enforces network policies, including acceptable use policies.
- Serves as an escalation point for complex network issues.
- Participates in on-call rotation and scheduled after-hours support for infrastructure upgrades and incident response.
- Collaborates across departments, and with third-party vendors and county IT teams to support project success.
- Provides technical expertise during vendor evaluations, contract negotiations, and service maintenance.
- Communicates and collaborates effectively with team members and cross-functional departments.
- Engages in ongoing professional development to remain current on best practices and new technologies.
- Provides on-site support at remote locations as necessary.
- Occasionally required to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- 7-10 years of experience designing, managing, and maintaining enterprise networks.
- Expert-level knowledge of Cisco switching and routing.
- Experience with Palo Alto Firewalls and Panorama, including GlobalProtect and IPSec tunnel configuration.
- Experience with Meraki switches and cloud-managed networking solutions.
- Familiarity with DNS, load balancing, and Global Traffic Manager (GTM) technologies, particularly F5 and Cloudflare.
- Experience with Cisco PIX/ASA/FWSM firewalls and legacy systems.
- Familiarity with AAA frameworks (Cisco ACS, ISE) and NAC systems.
- Expertise in BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLANs, PVST+, NAT (including Policy NAT/PAT and Twice NAT), and Layer 3 switching.
- Strong understanding of network security practices, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and PCI compliance standards.
- Excellent documentation skills (network diagrams, design documentation, procedures).
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Visio and Excel.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to remain adaptable and composed in dynamic, high-pressure environments, particularly during outages or escalations.
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
- Strong multitasking and prioritization skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Cisco CCNP Enterprise, Data Center, or Security certification (or equivalent skill level); Palo Alto Networks certifications (e.g., PCNSE) highly desirable.
- Experience with Wireshark and SolarWinds.
- Experience with F5 load balancers and iRules scripting.
- Familiarity with SNMP, SysLog, and network monitoring best practices.
- Experience with UNIX/Bash and shell scripting.
