Better Cotton is accelerating its efforts to deepen impact and transparency across global cotton supply chains. These initiatives support our global network—brands, retailers, suppliers, and producers—in navigating rapidly evolving regulatory landscapes and growing demand for more sustainable cotton.

Reporting to the Sr Manager Supply Chain & Traceability India, the Senior Membership Coordinator will play a key role in strengthening and expanding Better Cotton’s membership base across India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka as well as other assigned regions globally. This role involves executing and scaling membership operations, ensuring compliance with Better Cotton’s standards, and fostering engagement among stakeholders. A core focus will be enhancing the Membership participation and member retention, helping members integrate sustainability within their supply chains. The role will require close collaboration with the global team to align regional membership strategies with Better Cotton’s broader objectives.

The ideal candidate should have strong experience in stakeholder engagement and membership operations, with a proven ability to lead regional team and collaborate effectively cross-functionally. Success in this role will require a blend of commercial acumen and a sustainability focus, along with the ability to manage training and events, utilise CRM systems effectively, and engage senior stakeholders.

The Challenge

Looking ahead to 2030, we are targeting reducing GHG emissions from cotton production by half, big cuts in synthetic pesticide use, improve soil health across our network, improve farm income and support women’s empowerment among farmers and farm workers.

Areas that play to your strengths

We are seeking a motivated Senior Membership Coordinator to join our Demand and Engagement Function. In this role, you will be responsible for.

  • Member Engagement and Support
  • Manage and drive membership activities in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and other assigned regions, ensuring active engagement and participation from stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary contact for members in the region, ensuring they understand membership requirements and receive timely support.
  • Deliver high-quality member services, including quick response times, fulfilment of membership benefits, and support across sustainability, certification, physical traceability, and sourcing.
  • Support and guide members in aligning with Better Cotton’s global sustainability strategy and commitments.
  • Oversee the delivery of activities designed to retain existing members and ensure optimal participation in Better Cotton initiatives
  • Outreach, Recruitment, and Relationship Building
  • Develop annual and 3-year work plans for regional membership engagement and operations in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, as well as other assigned regions, coordinating implementation under the guidance of senior regional and global leads.
  • Develop and implement a regional outreach and recruitment plan for Retailers and Brands, Suppliers and Manufacturers, Civil Society Organisations, and Producer Organisations, aligned with organisational strategy.
  • Create opportunities for meaningful stakeholder dialogue, collaborating with brands, suppliers, civil society, Government bodies and industry bodies across the region.
  • Strengthen supply chain collaboration and support sustainable sourcing through targeted regional engagement strategies.
  • Membership Operations and Account Management
  • Oversee the end-to-end membership process, including applications, renewals, invoicing, and compliance with Better Cotton’s Code of Practice in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
  • Ensure that all new member applications from the region are assessed against membership criteria, properly screened, and evaluated for any potential integrity risks.
  • Oversee excellence in delivery of key services to members including ensuring good response time, delivery of membership benefits, ensure optimal engagement with BCI Members linked to the region through their supply chains.
  • Maintain accurate member and non-member records in Salesforce, ensuring data integrity and enabling effective engagement and reporting.
  • Ensure that all member engagement, compliance checks, and monitoring activities are properly documented and reported to the member monitoring team and senior management.
  • Monitor and report on membership performance (registrations, renewals, retention, engagement) and share insights with the global team.
  • Provide timely feedback to BCI HQ on member management issues to support system enhancements and updates.
  • Support the assessment and resolution of any complaint received for the region if applicable, and share learnings.
  • Events, Communication, and Collaboration
  • Be accountable for the content, design, and execution of regional member events, in collaboration with the Supply Chain & Traceability team, Country Director.
  • Ensure that all material needs are communicated and developed in alignment with Global Demand & Engagement and Communications Teams.
  • Contribute to and disseminate key communications that reflect regional insights and priorities while maintaining consistency with global messaging.
  • Financial Accountability and Budget Planning
  • Deliver annual membership income targets for the region (Renewal + New Member Income).
  • Support the reconciliation of regional member income with Finance Department to ensure that Membership and Finance reporting of membership income is consistent
  • Finance/ Budgets (preparing budgets & forecasts for India Supply Chain contracting and negotiation as required.
  • To contribute in preparation of annual country budget, especially for the activities directly related to Membership.
  • To ensure that expenditures are within the allocated budget and financial resources are effectively used and associated reporting on the budget is timely done.
  • Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead forward and resource planning for regional membership-focused programmes.
  • Provide, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to assigned Membership & Supply Chain staff in India, ensuring they have the necessary skills and resources to execute their responsibilities effectively.
  • Lead the recruitment and onboarding of new staff members in the region, aligning hiring decisions with the organisation’s growth plans and annual budgeting cycle.
  • Foster a high-performance team culture by encouraging collaboration between regional and global teams, sharing best practices, and continuously improving membership engagement strategies.
  • Where relevant, support the development of fundraising proposals to secure additional resources for regional and global membership and supply chain initiatives.

Beyond these specific responsibilities outlined above, the Senior Membership Coordinator is expected to collaborate on activities and lead on projects as agreed with the Country Director, Senior Manager for Member Engagement, and as required by the functional Annual Operating Plan and Strategic Planning, while displaying exceptional service orientation. The role will also work in close collaboration with the India Demand & Engagement team and the broader Country Team to ensure alignment and effective delivery of regional membership objectives.

We Are Looking For Someone Who Has

the following skills, knowledge, and experience:

Experience

Essential

  • At least 7 years’ working experience in sustainability, textile manufacturing, with proven expertise in stakeholder engagement, and integrating sustainability strategies across sectors.
  • Experience, knowledge or a proven interest in issues of sustainability or development, or corporate social responsibility
  • Experience in line management / team management with strong ethics
  • Demonstrable skills in project management and collaborative work.
  • Experience, knowledge, or a proven interest in issues of sustainability or development, or corporate social responsibility
  • Experience in managing, analysing, and presenting data effectively for reporting and decision-making purposes.
  • Demonstrated experience of building and managing customer relations
  • Experience in managing finance

Desirable

  • Experience in planning and executing customer events within tight timelines and specific requirements
  • Experience in compliance and monitoring
  • Experience in working on IT projects as business representative

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • University degree, or equivalent higher education qualification, in a relevant field
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to finding and proposing solutions to challenges
  • Excellent organisational skills and capacity to handle a set of different priorities
  • Demonstrated team leadership and people development skills
  • Strong communication (both written & spoken) and attentive listening abilities.
  • Fluent in English and Hindi, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • IT literacy, to include Word; PowerPoint; Excel; Outlook; Teams, Project management tools and CRM systems

Working arrangements

The position is full-time (40 hours per week) and will be based in the Delhi, India. Better Cotton offers flexible working, with core hours being 10am – 4pm. The Senior Membership Coordinator is expected to work in alignment with the organisation’s hybrid and flexible working policies, based at the Delhi office.
