Position Summary
This position drives the mechanical design of HVAC systems in the commercial retrofit market. The Senior Mechanical Engineer plays a key role within the Haynes Mechanical project team and is expected to have knowledge of building systems and operations in order to provide expert advice on how to improve building performance through system upgrades/retrofit, operational changes, and controls optimization.
Our client-centric approach is built on long-term relationships and evaluating current needs and design criteria, not simply replacing “like for like.” Our engineering team works closely with internal sales and operations team members as well as clients to provide solutions that optimize performance. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical engineering, energy management, controls, and operational delivery.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Registered Professional Engineer in Colorado required, and Arizona preferred
- 10+ years’ experience in HVAC design in the MEP market with a focus on mechanical infrastructure
- Highly proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Revit MEP
- Knowledge of building HVAC and energy codes
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide mechanical design and stamped construction documents (drawing and specifications) on assigned projects
- Conduct in-field verification and analysis of existing systems to support design decisions
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations
- Provide selection and schedule of equipment
- Design HVAC ductwork sizing and layout
- Design HVAC piping sizing and layout
- Provide permit support to operations team to ensure code compliance
- Coordinate project design with other disciplines (i.e. building automation, structural, electrical)
- Lead and manage assigned engineering personnel
- Perform technical audits of building systems
- Collaborate with Energy Engineer on energy audits and savings calculations using modeling software
- Meet fast-paced deadlines while maintaining quality design
- Assist with development of project schedules, budgets, and contracts
- Support sales through customer visits and sales presentations
- Provide technical support to both sales and operations
- Explore new technologies and stay abreast of current industry and market trends
- Communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience

COMPENSATION: Starting pay $120,000-$1500,000 annually
