We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced automation machinery for pallet assembly. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, expertise in automation systems, and a passion for delivering high-performance solutions. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, mentoring engineers, and driving projects from concept to production.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design and Development: Lead the design of complex mechanical systems and components for large-scale automation machinery, ensuring functionality, reliability, durability, and manufacturability.
  • Technical Expertise: Apply advanced knowledge of mechanical principles, materials, and manufacturing processes to develop innovative solutions for pallet assembly automation.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with our electrical/control engineers and our manufacturing teams to integrate mechanical systems with automation controls and ensure seamless operation.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Develop and test prototypes, analyze data, and implement design improvements to meet Viking quality and performance standards.
  • Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to our engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Documentation: Create detailed technical drawings, specifications, and documentation to support manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance processes.
  • Compliance: Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize designs, reduce costs, and improve efficiency in both our products and manufacturing processes.

Required Skills And Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 3 years in automation machinery or related manufacturing industries.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
    • Strong knowledge of mechanical design, kinematics, and materials selection.

  • Knowledge of structural, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and devices
    • Experience with automation systems and large-scale machinery.
    • Familiarity with manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, welding, assembly).
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Strong leadership and project management abilities.
    • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license or similar certifications are a plus.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the pallet assembly or woodworking machinery industry.
  • Familiarity with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) for structural analysis.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Location

This is a full-time exempt position. Schedule is standard business hours. The position is based in Viking's main office location.

Travel

This position will be expected to travel to customer sites 5-10 times per year.

Salary: $80000 - $110000 per year
