SkyWater Search is currently seeking candidates on behalf of a respected engineering consultancy that is looking to add a Mechanical Design Engineer to its growing team. This role is tailored for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of four years of experience designing HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems for commercial or industrial facilities.

Position Summary

The engineer selected for this role will focus on the design and implementation of mechanical systems—such as HVAC, plumbing, and utility piping (compressed air, vacuum, nitrogen, etc.)—in a range of facility types. The position involves both office-based design and periodic field visits to support construction and existing facility assessments.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform HVAC load calculations and determine equipment sizing
• Design air systems, ductwork, and specialized ventilation layouts
• Develop plumbing schematics and riser diagrams
• Prepare mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, specifications, and construction documents
• Review test and balance data to confirm airflow and pressure design targets
• Support development of project scopes, estimates, and technical proposals
• Collaborate with internal and external teams during design, coordination, and construction
• Conduct field investigations to document existing conditions and validate design assumptions
• Assist with resolving site issues in coordination with contractors and project teams

Candidate Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from an accredited program
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience designing HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial or industrial buildings
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one U.S. state (or ability to obtain at any point.)
• Familiarity with ASHRAE standards, mechanical codes, and industry best practices
• Experience with mechanical system types such as chilled water, ventilation, and piping networks
• Strong coordination background across multiple design disciplines
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Excel
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and contribute in a collaborative team setting

Schedule & Compensation

• Starting pay: $56/hour and up, depending on qualifications and experience
• Eligible for overtime (1.5x after 40 hours/week)
