Position Overview

System is seeking a Senior Material and Process Engineer, for a role focused on the development of next-generation materials and components for advanced reactor systems. You'll be responsible for leading supplier technical development, establishing material specifications, and managing critical supply chain activities to support material and component qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supplier Development: Lead the technical development of suppliers and enhance the technology readiness levels for essential materials and components critical to advanced reactor systems.
  • Specification Development: Create detailed material and process specifications for specialized materials such as HT9, Grade 92, nickel-base alloys, and various product forms including billet, bar, rod, wire, and tubing.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with current and prospective suppliers to align on material and process specifications. Provide expert input to design teams on component drawings and specifications to ensure optimal product performance.
  • Procurement Support: Assist in supplier selection by managing requests for proposals (RFPs) and participating in team review and selection processes.
  • Project Oversight: Provide technical direction and oversight for supplier projects, working closely with contract administrators and project engineers to ensure timely delivery of necessary data and deliverables.
  • Technical Review Coordination: Oversee the technical review processes for supplier deliverables, ensuring comprehensive responses and adherence to all specifications.
  • Supplier Audits: Participate in supplier audits in accordance with ASME NQA-1-2015 to ensure compliance with stringent quality standards.
  • Testing Programs: Design and execute test programs to assess manufacturing variability impacts on material properties and performance.

Key Qualifications & Skills

  • A Bachelor's degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, along with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree with at least 3 years of experience.
  • Strong understanding of metallurgy, particularly in the fabrication and thermomechanical processing of both ferrous (e.g., ferritic-martensitic steels) and nonferrous (e.g., nickel-base) alloys.
  • Proven experience in developing requirements specifications and defining technical scopes of work, including Statement of Work (SOW) and RFP development, along with providing comprehensive oversight of supplier projects.
  • Familiarity with stringent quality management systems, such as NQA-1, ISO-9001, or AS9100, is preferred.
  • General understanding of reactor plant design and systems, with experience in advanced reactor technologies regarded as a beneficial plus.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently with minimal direction to effectively address and solve complex challenges.
