Job Title: Senior Linux Systems Engineer – RHEL / Java Application Server (WebSphere / Tomcat) – Contract to Hire

Overview:

A leading provider in the property & casualty insurance industry is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with strong Linux (RHEL) experience and exposure to Java application servers. This role is part of a collaborative Infrastructure & Operations team that manages hundreds of Linux servers supporting mission-critical systems. This is a contract-to-hire position, ideal for someone eager to grow into a long-term role with a respected and well-established insurance company.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Administer and support Red Hat Linux 8 & 9 servers (deployment, patching, upgrades, certs, etc.)
• Provide support for Java-based application servers – WebSphere and Tomcat
• Participate in server/infrastructure design, system integration, and production support
• Troubleshoot OS and application issues and collaborate with other engineers
• Assist with managing and supporting additional infrastructure: Puppet, GrayLog, F5, OpenShift Kubernetes
• Contribute to business continuity and disaster recovery planning and execution

What We’re Looking For:

• 10 + years of experience in Systems/IT Infrastructure roles
• Strong hands-on expertise with RHEL 8/9 Linux administration
• Experience supporting Java application servers (WebSphere, Tomcat, or similar)
• Solid knowledge of system patching, upgrades, incident resolution, software installs
• Willingness to learn WebSphere if not already experienced
• Strong problem-solving skills, team-first mindset, and excellent communication

Nice to Have:

• Exposure to: Puppet, GrayLog, F5, OpenShift Kubernetes
• Certifications in Red Hat, Linux, or Microsoft technologies
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)

Hybrid: Onsite required Tues/Wed/Thurs at Westfield Center, OH
