Job Summary:

As a Senior Laravel Developer you will take full ownership of rewriting a legacy application, transitioning it to a new modern tech stack centred around Laravel. You will lead the development process, making key architectural decisions, implementing business logic, and ensuring robust database structures. The role requires someone who can work independently, manage the full development cycle, communicate progress effectively, and run client workshops for requirements discovery.You’ll be the primary technical point of contact for the project and will be part of a cross-functional team, ensuring the project is delivered on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

• Take full ownership of the legacy application rewrite project, ensuring timely and budget-conscious delivery.
• Application Development: Architect, design, and develop the new application using the Laravel framework and related technologies, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Database Design: Implement and optimise complex database structures to support business requirements, ensuring data integrity and performance.
• Business Logic Implementation: Work closely with stakeholders to understand and translate business logic into technical solutions.
• Lead discovery workshops with clients to define and capture project requirements, ensuring clear understanding and agreement on project scope.
• Provide regular project updates to stakeholders and the project owner, ensuring transparent and clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any technical challenges that arise during the development process.
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for the project, including architectural decisions, code, and technical specifications.

Requirements:

• 4+ years of professional experience in PHP Laravel development, with a strong focus on Laravel.
• Excellent English skills are required.
• Proven experience leading projects from inception to completion, particularly in rewriting legacy systems or developing business-critical applications.
• Strong expertise in modern Laravel (including the latest versions) and PHP frameworks.
• Experience with database design and optimization (MySQL, MariaDB, etc.), and familiarity with complex relational databases.
• Deep understanding of business logic, able to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Familiarity with front-end technologies such as Vue.js, React, or similar (preferred but not essential).
• Version control experience (Git) and CI/CD pipelines for efficient, automated deployments.
• Ability to work independently, manage your own workload, and meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to provide updates and lead client workshops effectively.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and experience working in time-constrained, budget-focused environments.

Bonus Skills:

• Experience with DevOps, Docker, or server-side deployments.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) for hosting and scaling applications.
• Previous experience working in a client-facing capacity or guiding non-technical stakeholders through technical decisions.
• Previous experience working with legacy MS applications such as Microsoft Access.
