About The Role

As a Senior Java Developer at Wellcom, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining our Wellcom technologies and applications. Reporting to the Director of Technology, you will combine strong hands-on development skills across Java and Python with deep expertise in AWS services to deliver scalable, serverless applications that directly support our end to end creative and production workflows.

Collaborating closely with the broader development and production teams, you will proficiently translate requirements and user stories into clear project scopes, while actively supporting sprint planning and prioritisation efforts.

Your solid background in cloud-native development, serverless architecture, and modern application design will enable you to confidently lead technical initiatives, troubleshoot complex challenges, and help shape the future of Wellcom’s technology landscape.

Role Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain scalable, high-performance applications using Java, Python and AWS services.
  • Build and optimise serverless applications leveraging AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, SNS, S3, and CloudFront.
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering through to deployment and support.
  • Collaborate with the Client Delivery Manager and Head of Development to translate business needs into innovative technical solutions that advance production efficiency and client engagement.
  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code, following best practices and documentation standards.
  • Maintain technical documentation related to software design, architecture, and implementation.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, particularly in serverless computing and cloud-native development.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex technical issues in cloud-native environments.
  • Contribute to architectural design discussions and decisions, advocating for scalable, resilient, and secure solutions.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of hands-on Java development experience delivering complex enterprise projects.
  • Strong proficiency in Python programming.
  • Proven practical experience with AWS services, including Lambda, DynamoDB (and Streams), API Gateway, SNS, S3, and CloudFront.
  • Solid understanding of serverless application patterns and event-driven architecture.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

If you were here in the last month you may have:

  • Collaborated with the broader development team and Director of Technology to define sprint goals and prioritise upcoming work.
  • Conducted R&D and solution analysis to inform technical recommendations.
  • Scoped and initiated development of a third-party hardware integration within our production software.
  • Supported the phased rollout of our software platform across multiple studio and agency locations.
  • Participated in a Melbourne team social event at local rooftop venue, Mirror Mirror.
