Summary

Job Description The Senior IT Network Engineer's role is to ensure the stability and integrity of in-house voice, data, video, and wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. In addition, the Senior IT Network Engineer will participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end-user training where required. Essential Functions Strategy & Planning * Collaborate with executive management and department leaders to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs. * Create and maintain documentation related to network configuration, mapping, processes, and service records. * Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery. Acquisition & Deployment * Design and deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including routers, switches, firewalls, voice systems, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), and other hardware. * Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to stay current with developments in the networking industry. * Oversee new and existing network equipment, hardware, and software upgrades. * Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services. Operational Management * Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes. * Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of network devices. * Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information. * Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports. * Perform network and security audits, backups, and recovery. On-Call Availability * Provide 24/7/365 on-call support on a rotation basis with other team members. Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field. Equivalent work-related experience with IT network administration which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, may qualify. Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and internet standards. Five (5) years of experience with configuration, installation, and management of network equipment including Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, telephony, and wireless communications equipment. Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices. A Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification is preferred. A valid Arizona Operator's Driver's License is required. Supplemental Information Work requires the ability to read computer-related manuals, technical documentation, memos, and general correspondence. Work requires the ability to write standards, procedures, memos, and justification of computer-related upgrades, and installations. Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations and complex formulas for computer-related systems. Work requires the exercise of considerable initiative and independent analytical and evaluative judgment. Work requires the ability to plan, research, design, and manage computer-related installations, upgrades, and maintenance schedules. The incumbent prepares documents and does research to justify language used in documents for a department unit and may recommend budget allocations. The incumbent in this position contacts others within the organization. These contacts may involve similar work units or departments within the City, which may be involved in decision-making or providing approval or decision-making authority for purchases or projects. In addition, these incumbents work with individuals outside the City who may belong to professional or peer organizations, as well as various state and federal agencies. Vendors and suppliers may also be called upon for information on purchases, supplies, or products. Meetings and discussions may be conducted with customers, brokers, and sales representatives. Employee must maintain regular attendance. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
