Job Details
The AEC is seeking experienced Infrastructure Engineers to manage and improve system infrastructure, including on-premises server and storage systems, multi-cloud infrastructure, Office 365 applications, standard operating environments, and end-user device management. These roles are part of the Indigo Program, a major transformation initiative aimed at modernising electoral ICT systems.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Design, implement and maintain Azure cloud and hybrid solutions
- Resolve issues and propose infrastructure improvements
- Optimise Azure and public cloud resource performance and cost-effectiveness
- Create and maintain documentation including design and as-built configurations
- Implement and manage security controls in line with PSPF, ISM and Essential 8
- Other duties as required

Essential Criteria
- Strong knowledge and experience working in IT Infrastructure Engineer roles, deploying, testing, and maintaining enterprise-scale ICT environments
- Demonstrated experience with a range of the following technologies:
Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy
Azure (including networking concepts), Microsoft 365
Intune, Entra, Defender, Purview
Exchange, Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint
Azure DevOps (CI/CD, IaC), PowerShell
Virtualisation (Hyper-V or VMWare)
Backup (Veeam)
- Ability to build and maintain relationships across all levels, manage key stakeholders, work with geographically dispersed teams, collaborate with technical/non-technical staff, and mentor team members
- Knowledge of risk management principles in the context of security patching and infrastructure
- Deep understanding of cyber security principles, best practices, and frameworks relevant to the Commonwealth
Desirable Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications or industry certifications in Computer Science/IT
- Understanding of ITIL practices (problem, incident, change management)
- Experience supporting or understanding of:
Email security (e.g., Clearswift)
Network infrastructure (firewalls, SDWAN, ZTNA)
